"Ariel? Is that you?" A man's voice says from behind me.

I whip around and sure enough it's who I thought it was. It was Daniel. Daniel Seavey.

My ex-boyfriend from high school.

He left me heartbroken after seven years of dating. After the break up I didn't even want to be friends.

Actually it wasn't that I didn't want to... It's that I couldn't be friends with him. It hurt too much to think about him.
All he left me with is

"We both want different things for our future so that's why we can't be together."

I would have changed. I would have forgotten a career in law if he wanted a family. I would have done that if it meant being with him.

After he asks me who I am I reply,

"Yes... Who are you?" I play it off as if I don't remember him.

"Daniel. Daniel Seavey....We used to date." He replies feeling awkward.

"Ohhh. Right." I respond laughing.

Daniel just stands there looking left to right thinking about what to say next.

"So... Ummm.. How long has it been since we've seen each other?" He asks.

I know it's been ten years. We're 28 now. But I shake my head and say I don't know.

I just want to know if he's married. If he has a family now. If he's happy.

"Well... I think we should catch up... How about we go and get some coffee right now?" He suggests.

We walk out of the book store and into the streets.

Even though the coffee shop is across the street there is an awkwardness of silence and I can't wait to just sit down.

when we get in we order.

Of course he remembered my favorite coffee in the entire world. Coconut, and sat us down.

"So... Do you have a family?" He asks.

"Ummm. Actually I don't. I really focussed on my career and didn't really have time for boyfriends." I reply.

He just nods in agreement as if he had lived my life with me.

"How about you? Do you have a family?" I ask.

"No. I don't. I focussed on my career too. Small world." He replies laughing a little too forced.

He still looks amazing. Not a day over twenty is what he looks. He's still tall and handsome. And those blue eyes. Those blue eyes get me every time.

Daniel's POV
I guess you could say I still love her. Letting her go was the worst mistake of my life. And now that I see her here. So perfect. Unchanged. I want her back. But how. She hates me. But I love her.

Ariel's POV

He hates me. But I love him.

Daniel's POV

How do I say I want her back?

Ariel's POV

Is he going to ask me out again'?

"Well it was nice catching up with you!" Daniel exclaims.

He picks up his coat and coffee and walks out the door.

That was the last time I ever did see Daniel Seavey. I think about him every day. Of course I have my own family now. But I always look back and wonder what would have happened if he had asked me out on one more date. Maybe I would be with him instead.
