I sometimes catch him playing basketball shirtless. I hate to admit it but I watch sometimes. He lives next door though. So my eyes just happen to wander out the window and stare for a while. I can't help that!
He's so perfect and he would never notice a girl like me. I'm too shy and he's so popular. He's so perfect. And I'm just not.
Today he's with his friend Christian. He's super cute too. But Daniel just always catches my eye right away.
I decide to walk out and pretend to start planting.
Planting. Of all things I chose that. I must've looked so weird.
"Hey Amanda! You wanna play with us?" Daniel yells.
"Me?" I ask.
Of course me. Now he thinks I'm crazy.
He laughs and nods. Motioning for me to come.
I stand up and brush off my shorts.
He passes me the ball and I throw it up making a perfect basket.
He mockingly bows down and starts to laugh.
I giggle.
"You're cute." He smiles.
I can feel my face getting hot. He just called me cute. And I think I might have died inside.
Daniel slowly takes off his shirt and I Avert my eyes so I don't keep on staring.
He's perfect. There's nothing wrong with him.
"Ha. Christian you have to go finish homework right?" Daniel asks.
"No..." Christian replies confused.
"Yes you do." Daniel says eyes widening and smiling like he doesn't know what's happening.
"Oh right.. That homework." Christian winks.
With the wink he's gone.
Daniel invites me into his house and I gladly say yes.
As we walk in I can see Daniel getting nervous. He starts smiling and laughing.
He walks me into his bedroom and we sit down.
"Well. I think you know why I took you here. And I don't want to sound creepy." He laughs.
But you can sense the tension.
"Every single day I see you walking out of your house and I think to myself how such a beautiful girl could be so shy and never say hello to me. If anything I should be nervous to talk to you. I've had a crush on you for as long as I've remembered... Know I don't want you to be creeped out by me but I just needed to tell you that because it's been bugging me forever." He says swiftly in one sentence.
"Daniel. I like you too. Don't worry. I've likes you forever and I think you're amazing. I just don't have a lot of confidence and sometimes I need to remind myself that I'm as perfect as I'll get and trying is all I can do." I reply.
Daniel just stares at me laughing.
"You? Confidence issues? Nah. You're the most beautiful girl I've ever seen how could you be self conscious?" He continues to laugh.
I just nod my head and laugh.
The rest of the day we spend laying on his bed listening to music.
His head on mine. Our hands fingered together and our hearts beating the same beat.
