Jennifer took a deep breath as her and Lana listened to the noises outside the door. Each step, each breath, even each blink was crucial due to any moment they could be discovered. They held onto each other tight as they placed their ears against the door. Jennifer slowly reached across from Lana and shut off the light.
"Is there anyway out of here?" Jennifer whispered in her ear. Lana shook her head before seeing a pair of shadowed footprints underneath the door. She gave Jennifer a look before hearing the footsteps turn the other way. They were both trying to understand why the person didn't open the door to discover them, until Jennifer recognized the tune outside the door.
"My phone." Jennifer whispered again, only now her expression worried. "What if it's Colin?" She said, Lana nudged her to keep her quiet.
They listened as the phone tune slowly faded up the stairs.
"What's the plan?
"Well there is one of them and two of us right? Why don't we just charge her?"
"And if she has a gun?"
"Well we can't stay bloody locked in here now can we?" Jennifer said as she placed her hand on her forehead.
"I think you are spending too much time with Colin."
"Why?"
"You are talking like him."
Lana listened carefully as she heard the footsteps upstairs. Taking a deep breath, she placed her hand on the doorknob and turned it slowly. She peered out through the dark as the storm raged outside and slowly walked out, Jennifer following close behind.
"She's upstairs." Lana whispered.
Just as they felt comfortable and confident in their chances to escape, the door made a loud creak before the footsteps that were upstairs were now darting down them and toward the unsuspecting duo.
