Jun was still having a mental debate on what he should do when the bell rang and people started rushing out. He looked up to the brown haired boy in front of him, who wasn't showing any signs of leaving.
Gathering all his courage Jun flung his bag on his shoulder and carefully stood up."Soo-hyun?"
He barely even glanced at Jun before getting up. He was muttering something about just having to pass this class under his breath.
"Wait! Don't you think we should decide on a topic?" Jun hurried after the older boy.
"We'll take whatever is left, it doesn't really matter that much," At least Soo-hyun seemed to know how to talk now.
"To be honest with you, I'd rather pick one of the ones I knew. Most of them I've never heard of."
Jun's pretty sure he heard Soo-hyun whisper something like 'spoiled prat' but that was hopefully just imagined.
"Would you agree for a coffee then? We have to get this started somewhere," Jun knew how desperate he sounded but he also really needed a good grade from this class.
"Fine. Tomorrow at 6 pm in the cafeteria right outside of school."
Woah, bossy much. But Jun agreed anyways, although he had promised to visit his parents tomorrow after school. He had enough time to make it back by six.
.
The boy in the mirror was not Jun. He had a brown neatly cut wig, straightened button up shirt and a too-fancy pair of pants. None of this was him.
But that's perfect, exactly what his mom would want. Not him.Jun took a shaky breath and grabbed his phone. Locking the door behind him the blond hurried down the stairs. His brother was waiting outside in his car to give him a ride since he was also going home.
Home. Not how Jun would describe where he was headed now.
"Good afternoon Jun," Jun-wan greeted way too formally.
"Hi hyung," Jun said as lightly as he could.
That was all they said during the whole ride. It was even more awkward than last time and Jun didn't know what was better. Sitting in this car for much longer or arriving at their parents' place.
Jun-wan pulled up in front of the house Jun used to call home. It had two floors and looked incredibly expensive. It looked like a fancy office from a commercial instead of a home.
Getting out of the car and walking to the front door took more mental effort than Jun was willing to admit. He took one more deep breath while Jun-wan knocked on the door. Who even has to knock to be allowed inside your own home?
"Oh Jun-wan! It's so lovely to see you again," Their mother opened the door with a bright smile that made Jun cringe. His mom turned her attention to Jun briefly.
"Hi Jun," His mother gave a tight-lipped smile. "Is school alright?" Just as he had expected.
"Yes mother, it's going well."
"Good to know."
It was hard to hide his dissapointment when his mother turned back to Jun-wan and the bright smile returned to her face. But Jun had always been the least favorite child since Jun-wan was everything their parents could wish for. Smart, handsome, did everything their parents asked, had a good career, gratuated with honors and was going to take over the family business. How could Jun compare? There's no way.
The first hour of his visit went surprisingly well. Jun's father wasn't around for long and only said hello to him, which was way better than the insults he had expected. Maybe it was the wig and outfit?
But nothing good ever lasts when it comes to Jun and his luck. Just as he was heading towards the door, planning on taking a taxi back to campus so he could meet Soo-hyun, his mother called him. She gets close and puts her hand on top of her son's head
With a sickly sweet voice she said,
"Jun, I thought I told you to get rid of that disgusting hair," while petting her sons hair softly."What do you mean? I dyed and cut it just like you asked," Now Jun was really about to cry, she couldn't know.
"And you even dare to lie. You didn't think I'd notice? I didn't raise a child like that!" And with that she curled her fingers painfully hard and pulled the wig off his head, throwing it accross the floor.
Jun felt his eyes tear up as his blond curls broke free and the womans expression in front of him turned furious. He knew this had been a bad idea.
Jun's father had appeared at the back, sneering at him."You're no son of mine," Is all the man said, walking to stand beside his mother.
She was still fuming in front of him.
"I can't believe there's not a single thing you can do right. Get some sense in that head boy!"
Why was he surprised? He shouldn't have been. But when the hard slap landed on his cheek and made his head turn, Jun could only stare at the wall to his left. That hurt. His father hadn't gone this far in a long time.
"Leave. I don't want to see you again before you learn some basic respect and man up. It's a disgrace to have a girl like you in the family."
Jun didn't wait a second longer and rushed out feeling the tears running down his cheeks. The taxi was already waiting and he got in without saying a word, just showed the driver the destination.
The blonde was trying hard to compose himself in the backseat, knowing that he was already late for the meet up. How would he explain?
Jun dried his tears and tried to pat down his messed up curls. He's quite sure that Soo-hyun wouldn't mention it anyways but he didn't want to go out looking like this.
The taxi pulled up way earlier than Jun would've liked. Checking his watch the blond found out he was already half an hour late. Shit.Jun's heart was beating out of his chest as he headed to the table Soo-hyun was still luckily sitting at. The cafe was quite cozy and had tables of two scattered all around with flowers on top of most of them. The ceeling had little led lights going around the edges. Soo-hyun hadn't noticed him yet, for he was intensely glaring at his hands.
"Soo-hyun I'm so so sorry I'm late, I didn't mean to!" Jun rushed to explain himself while sitting down on the other side of the table.
"Don't bother, I don't care about your excuses," The brown haired boy muttered.
"No seriously, I'm sorry, it won't happen again. Can I offer you a drink to make it up?"
Soo-hyun just looked more mad when he said that.
"I've told you, I do not want anything from you so quit offering," And without giving Jun a chance to speak he continued, "Also since you clearly had something better to do, I decided the topic for us."
"Oh yeah great, which one did you pick? And I swear I just didn't notice how late it was getting, sorry again."
"Abuse and the psychology behind that. It sounded the easiest."
He's got to be kidding right? No way I'm doing that with him of all people. This can't possibly end well. Kind of an obvious choice, given that the class is psychology based, though.
"Uh sure sounds nice, should we meet up again to start it?" Jun disn't think he'd be lucky enough to get the brunette to agree to a second meet up.
"I really have better things to do, like an actual job. You wouldn't know, but I guess this has to be done. And I don't trust you to be on time so I'll just come to your place this weekend, alright?" Jun's sure that's the longest sentence Soo-hyun had ever said to him. And he even managed to include two insults, impressive.
"Yeah saturday's fine for me, come whever you want," oh he almost forgot, "But I need your number to text you the address and talk about the project"
It's a miracle that Soo-hyun agreed. So now Jun sits at home with a project to think about, a reddened cheek, messed up hair and Nam Soo-hyun's number on his phone.
