adjective ~ not concealing one's thoughts or feelings

I had spent all morning in the office with Phoenix looking over the inventory. He always delegated these kind of things to Charlie, seeing it as the lesser projects compared to his treaties. He was right, of course, but I enjoyed the light workload and it helped me improve on my math skills.

My stomach was grumbling as one o'clock neared and so I hurried through the last of the hospital forms. These one's just required me to overlook their requests of stock and medicines and have me sign them off for the next shipment. It was standard enough, more wolf painkillers and medicines that help with females heat. There was also some strange equipment that I decided to search and only now, did I wish I had left it where it was.

Upon the wonderful search of Google, did I discover the wonderous things that I may be poked with during childbirth. I felt my heart sink into my stomach as I came across forceps and the scissors used for cutting your ass open. My since-dormant fear of hospitals came creeping back and a nausea built in my stomach.

Slamming the laptop closed, I exhaled heavily.

"You alright there, my love?" Phoenix's soft voice called from the other side of the room.

Originally, we had shared one long desk but since becoming pregnant I found every click on the keyboard or tapping of his pen frustrating and so retreated to the far end of the room where the sofa once had been.

Shaking my head to clear the shiny silver thoughts, I gave him a tense smile. "I just googled something that I shouldn't have."

"What was it?" He wondered, putting his pen down.

"Uh..." I licked my lips. "Things on Kate's list. It looks like she's getting the supplies ready for the babies coming."

His eyebrow quirked. "I see... Want to elaborate or...?"

I shook my head. "No, no. It's fine. I will just burn the memory!"

"Okay, if you're sure..."

I hesitated, my fingers impatiently thrumming on the desktop. "No, I can't keep it in. There were these awful metal looking contraptions that yank the baby out of you! Like giant spoons!"

His lips twitched with humour. "Forceps?"

"Yes!" I groaned, slumping in my chair. "And now I shall never sleep easy again."

He laughed. "I'm glad you are taking this humorously. I know how doctor things can make you feel."

I shrugged. "It will haunt me but may as well try to lighten the terrifying thoughts."

Turning my gaze to the clock, the minutes ticked closer to one and I decided that it was enough for now. Organising my files and disarray of stationery, I gave Phoenix a quick glance to see he was still engrossed in his work.

"Are you coming for lunch?" I asked.

"Yeah, I will be there in five minutes. I have one more page to look over." He looked up to smile at me.

"Okay. I'll meet you down there." I returned his smile, stepping closer to kiss his cheek,

Making my way into the kitchen, I greeted the few pack members that were lingering around. It was a free for all, as usual on days like these so I didn't mind going to get food alone. Surprisingly, I didn't see any of the usual gang and helped myself to some pasta my mum had made in advance. Warming it up in the microwave, I stirred it thoroughly before seating myself on one of the bar stools. It was a large jump, and I knew in weeks to come I would struggle climbing it.
