I was lying in my bed when someone knocked on the door. I bet, it was Nithe.
“Riri,” he called.
“How are you? Your eyes were still puffy... Ano ba talagang nangyari kagabi?” He asked, again.
I sighed. “I’m okay. Don’t mind me.” I tried to smile.
Kahit nag-aalangan, tumango rin ito. He pattet my hands before he stand up.
“Be okay, Claries.”
How can I be okay?
Since it was lunch time, kumain muna kami kasama si Miss Ynah.
“Miss Ynah, ganda mo ngayon!”
The loudest introvert. I smiled when our eyes met, sunod na hinanap ng mata ko si Nithe.
Nakamasid siya sa akin. He let out an ‘in pain‘ smile when I met his gaze. Nawala ang ngiti ko.
“The team that will succeed will gets a trophy, books and a cash, consolations for the two groups also.” Miss Ynah stated.
Miss Ynah picked up his laptop, she smiled a little before reading something.
“This story was about someone who’s selfish and greedy. A guy that lacks of love and care but abundant with material things and physical needs,”
“Who learned to sacrifice, give something up... to give his life up for someone.”
Nagpakawala kaming apat ng hangin, nangingiti. Nagbunga ang pinaghirapan.
“Bright from year 2021 and Uno from 1912, succeed. Congratulations to Yesterday’s Smile’s authors!”
She greeted us while smiling widely. We thanked her wholeheartedly.
“In writing a story, you should or can put yourself in your character’s shoe. And that’s when ideas will come out, kung ikaw ang nasa kalagayan ng bida, ano ang gagawin mo?”
“You're not only a writer. You are a writer.” Her tips and techniques ended with those words.
We bid our goodbyes and thank yous for her before she left us in the house. She allowed us to stay for a day or even two bilang karagdagang premyo raw sa pagsisikap namin.
