*Corbyn POV*I told Jonah to go meet his daughter, and he agreed. I should've known he was going to cancel when I saw how fucking scared he was.
I let Jonah leave before everyone else, the day Calum died, specifically so he could make it to meet Violet on time. What an idiot.
"Give me my phone, I need to call his work." I glance to Cassidy, who holds onto my phone tightly as I floor it down the freeway.
"I'll call." I sigh, I know she hates when I'm on my phone when I drive, but this will go so much faster if I just do it myself.
"Cass, just give me my phone." I hold my hand out but she doesn't move, she just stares at the quickly passing road ahead of us. "Call his work then."
I try to keep my tone light but this is a complicated situation. Jonah, never disappears unless something's heavily weighing on him. Losing his sister, and losing Devonie, were the only things that crushed him this much, so I can't help but wonder what's on his mind now.
Cassidy finds his work number in my contacts and puts the call on speaker. My mind races with all possibilities as it continues to ring. Maybe somethings happening at the bank?
"Mr. Marais' office, Kim speaking, how can I help you?" Kim, Jonah's assistant at the bank. The older woman with short, dirty blonde hair, has been his assistant for the last four years, and somewhat got used to me calling. She's still slightly afraid of me, but it's not as bad as most.
"Is Jonah there?" I'm assuming not because she's answering his phone, but I have to ask.
"No, he left a few hours ago, he said something about the beach. I'm sorry, Mr. Besson." She apologizes but she's doing more for me than she thinks.
"Thank you, Kim."
Cassidy hangs up the call as I do a completely illegal u turn, driving on the grass to turn around. I should've known he'd be at the beach, that's his getaway.
Speeding around traffic, Cassidy holds on to the handle on her door, as I speed faster now that I know he's at the beach.
I know Cassidy probably regrets saying she'd come with me to look, I've never driven this fast with her in my car, but this is important, finding my best friend, is almost as important as it was when I was looking for her.
Arriving at the Manhattan Beach, my tires squeal as I cut my speed immediately. I'm looking for him, or his car at the over crowded beach.
He could be anywhere on this beach, hell, he might not even fucking be here.
"There!" Cassidy shouts and her finger points further up, to a parking lot, where I see Jonah's Audi.
"Thanks, baby girl."
I speed up to claim the empty spot next to his car and I finally turn off my car. I look out to the beach, and maybe twenty feet away, sits Jonah, in a black suit, sitting in the sand.
"Stay here." She nods lightly and I take my keys out of the ignition and my phone back from her hands.
I know Cassidy will be safe in my car, but I lock my doors anyways as I step out. I feel Cassidy's eyes on me as I begin walking through the sand as the sun begins to set behind the water.
The beach is full of happy families and young couples in love, but my mind is focused on a man with nothing to lose, except his mind.
My feet stop moving once I make it to Jonah's left side. I place my hands in my pockets as I listen to him sigh. He knows it's me, and I know he wanted to be alone.
