Dolores' Gift Day

Today was a momentous occasion for Dolores as she stood before her family, each member wishing her the best and promising to love her regardless of the gift she received.

"We love you, Dolores," her father, Felix, said with a warm smile, which made her heart swell with joy.

Dolores took a deep breath as the curtains parted, revealing a crowd of villagers cheering for her. She walked down the red carpet, nerves tingling, until she reached her Abuela and parents. Her Abuela spoke softly, words of encouragement and wisdom, before Dolores touched the magical candle.

She then placed her hand on her door, and suddenly, she could hear everything—every whisper, every drop of rain, even the faintest rustle of leaves miles away. The cacophony of sounds overwhelmed her, and she clutched her ears in pain.

Her door depicted an image of herself, hands over her ears, symbolizing her new gift of extraordinary hearing. The villagers cheered, unaware of her discomfort. But Mia noticed. She saw the pain in Dolores' eyes and knew something needed to be done.

Weeks After the Ceremony

Weeks passed since Dolores' ceremony, and life had become increasingly challenging for her. She had to endure every sound, every second, and it was taking a toll on her.

One afternoon, as Dolores was heading to her room, her Tía Mia called out to her. "Dolores, come here. I have something to show you."

"Yes, Tía Mia?" Dolores asked, looking up curiously.

"Follow me to my store," Mia said. Dolores nodded and followed her aunt.

Inside the store, Mia revealed a pair of earmuffs. Dolores' eyes widened in surprise. "What are these?" she asked.

"I noticed you're struggling to cope with all the noise, so I made something that might help. These earmuffs should reduce the volume of what you hear. Try them on," Mia explained, adjusting the settings.

Dolores slipped them on, and her eyes widened as a blissful silence enveloped her. She smiled in relief. "I can't hear anything. It's so quiet!" she exclaimed. Mia adjusted the earmuffs again, allowing Dolores to hear at a normal level, not the overwhelming superhuman one.

"Oh, thank you, Tía! I love you!" Dolores beamed, hugging Mia tightly.

"Anything for my niece," Mia replied, smiling warmly.

"I can't wait to show everyone!" Dolores said, excitedly running off to share the good news.

Mia watched her go, a satisfied smile on her face, and then returned to tidying her store.

A New Arrival

A few weeks later, on October 2, 1934, the Madrigal house was filled with the sounds of anticipation and excitement. Mia was in labor, her screams echoing through the halls. The children waited in the living room, while the adults helped Mia through the birth.

Suddenly, the screams stopped, and the children exchanged anxious glances.

"Is it over?" Isabela asked, her voice trembling.

The door opened, and Felix emerged, grinning broadly. "It's a girl!" he announced, his joy palpable.

The children cheered and eagerly asked when they could see the baby.

"Soon," Felix assured them. "The doctors need to check her health before you can meet her."

Inside the bedroom, Mia lay exhausted but happy. Alma and Pepa were with her, cradling the newest member of the Madrigal family.

"She's perfect, Mia," Alma said, her eyes shining with pride.

"What name have you chosen for her?" Pepa asked.

"Anna. Simple but sweet—Anna Madrigal," Mia replied, smiling at her sleeping daughter.

"That's a beautiful name for a beautiful girl," Alma said, gazing at her granddaughter with love.

Pepa opened the door, and the children rushed in, excitement bubbling over. They crowded around, eager to see the baby.

"Okay, okay, one at a time," Mia laughed, showing them their new cousin.

"She's so beautiful, Tía Mia," Luisa said, her eyes wide with wonder.

The baby opened her eyes, revealing a striking green color, just like Mia's.

"She has your eyes, and mine too!" Miguel exclaimed happily.

"Why can't I have green eyes like you?" Isabela asked, a hint of sadness in her voice.

"Because your brown eyes are the most beautiful thing to me," Mia said, gently lifting Isabela's chin. "They are perfect."

Isabela's face brightened, and she smiled. "Thank you, Mama."

"What's her name?" Dolores asked, still marveling at the tiny new life.

"Her name is Anna Madrigal," Mia replied.

"I like it. It's simple," Isabela said, nodding in approval.

Alma clapped her hands gently to get everyone's attention. "Alright, let's give Mia some rest. She's had a long day," she said, guiding everyone out of the room. As they left, Pepa lingered behind, turning to Mia.

"Mia, I never got to thank you properly for the earmuffs you gave Dolores. It was so hard for me to see her struggle, to watch her cover her ears in pain every day. Thanks to you, she doesn't have to suffer like that anymore," Pepa said, tears glistening in her eyes.

"She's my niece, and I love my family. I'd do anything for them," Mia said, her voice full of love. "Just like I'll do anything for your future son. He deserves the world, and I'll always be there for him and for you."

"And I'll always be there for the twins and for Anna," Pepa replied, smiling warmly.

"Oh, Pepa, I love you so much. You've been there for me through everything, every challenge, every bad day," Mia said, her voice choked with emotion.

"Of course. That's what big sisters are for. I've got to keep you out of trouble," Pepa said with a teasing smile.

"Alright, alright, you're pushing it now," Mia laughed, rolling her eyes.

"Well, I'd better let you get some rest. I'll watch the baby for now," Pepa said, gently taking Anna from Mia.

"See you later, Pepa," Mia said, closing her eyes and letting exhaustion take over. As she drifted off, a contented smile played on her lips, knowing she was surrounded by love and family.
