Ellie:
If I could not gleam anything from Ms Clara's memories, then perhaps the strongest Empath in Earth's history would find something within her emotions. That was the true reason I decided to find Emma Grayling, not the ghost hunt the Doctor and Clara thought we were doing.
It just meant I had to babysit as we went to the house in the rain, huddled under umbrella's. Where the Doctor knocked, hid us around the corner, and then jumped out upon Professor Palmer. "Boo! Hello, I'm looking for a ghost."
"And you are?"
Clara followed him, pulling me with her. "Ghostbusters."
"I'm the Doctor, this is my sister Ellody."
He showed psychic paper as I did a fake ID. "Doctor what? Croft, like Professor Croft?"
"No, just Doctor." He replied simply. "And this is Clara." Now instantly became distracted by his technology. Palmer would be his focus, while Emma would be my own. "Ah, but you are very different. You are Major Alec Palmer. Member of the Baker Street Irregulars, the Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare. Specialised in espionage, sabotage and reconnaissance behind enemy lines. You're a talented watercolourist, professor of psychology and a ghost hunter. Total pleasure. Massive."
Emma was now confused. "Actually, you're wrong. Professor Palmer spent most of the war as a P-Oh-W."
"Actually, that's a lie told by a very brace man involved in very secret operations. The type of man who keeps a Victoria Cross in the attic, eh?"
"But you already know this. Emma Grayling, the Professor's assistant, only doubled as the non-subjective equipment." I explained, Clara linking arms with me through my thick jacket. "1974, you are called psychic, correct?"
She was hesitant, mind unsure what to make of me, but Palmer tried to comfort her. "Relax, Emma. They're Military Intelligence. So, what is all this in aid of?"
The Doctor had yet to stop smiling. "Health and Safety. Yeah, the Ministry, mostly my sister, got wind of what's going on down here. Sent us to check that everything's in order."
"They don't have the right."
I raised an eyebrow. "Are you sure regarding that? Do not worry, we should not be long."
Our babysitting charge found further things to attempt. "Oh! Oh, look. Oh, lovely. The ACR 99821. Oh, bliss. Nice action on the toggle switches. You know, I do love a toggle switch. Actually, I like the word toggle. Nice noun. Excellent verb."
I now pulled him away by the ear, my leather gloves making my hands stiff. "Do not touch, Brother, you are still in trouble due to the HADS."
Unfortunately he still scanned with the sonic, Palmer spotting it. "What's that?"
"Gadget." He replied quickly. "Health and safety. Classified, I'm afraid, Sissy's very stern on that." For a reason, yes. "You know, while the back room boffins are bullied to work out the kinks." I was not giving you further ways to start fires, Doctor, Elizabeth and I were in agreement on this.
"What's it telling you?" Clara questioned.
"That no one has been exposed to any life-threatening transmundane emanations." I replied, still holding her arm absently. "Shall we walk the house in search of wayward spirits?"
That got the Doctor focussed, leading us down a corridor with a three pronged candelabra that I kept him from starting fires with. "I will not have this stolen out from under me, do you understand?"
Of course he did not. "Er, no, not really, sorry."
"I will not have my work stolen, then be fobbed off with a pat on the back and a letter from the Queen." He informed us tersely. "Never again. This is my house, Doctor, Ellody, and it belongs to me."
