Dinner was delicious, you had your options of chicken, beef or fish. Rye went with beef and I went with the fish. I wasn't really looking for something to weigh down my stomach. Before the cake was served, Maddox cleared his throat and got everyone's attention.

"Thank you, friends, family, brothers and sisters, for coming and celebrating the joining of my partner and I. There were days where I dreaded not having someone to share my life with, no purpose to make sure I returned home every night. Emerson gave me all that and more. I will never have enough time on his earth and with him to show him how much I care for him and the life we created together."

Emerson dabbed his eyes with a tissue. His eyes rimming with tears as he struggled to keep his composure. Ares sat on Cade's knee right beside Maddox. Ares clearly wanted his father, and he was invested in getting Maddox to see his hands reaching out for him.

When he finally sat back down, he took Ares from Cade. You could see Ares' whole mood change. That kid had him wrapped around his finger.

Ryer touched my leg, suddenly pulling me away from looking at Maddox and his son. Booze was now freely flowing, and it made me wonder exactly how long it would be before Ryer and I saw some kind of fight or action. Maddox and I seemed to meet eyes, and it was clear he was also on edge about the levels of alcohol flowing, but he didn't show too much of that.

Ryer sighed, before whispering beside my ear.

"This is going to get messy. I can feel it."

"Glad it wasn't just me feeling those vibes."

We sat with the others, making small talk. Creed suddenly reached out, grabbing Alexi by the back of his head and bringing it towards the table like he was going to smash his head off the table. Rather, an entire wine bottle sailed over him, right where his head had been a moment before.

"Here starts the shit show." Creed hissed.

Ryer and I both stood up. This was something I wasn't sure if we should deal with, but one look at Maddox and he nodded at me, giving me permission to end this right here. Emerson was siting beside him, not looking the slightest bit bothered by the whole thing. From their actions, I would have almost said he was cashing in on a bet he had made with Maddox.

Those who weren't in conversations of their own and had nothing better to do than watch the event unfold did so. Ryer was quick to mention for me to be careful and keep my injury in mind when handling this. I would rather not have to handle this with violence, but I could if I needed to.

It didn't take long to figure out that both the gentlemen involved in the fight were drunk. They were throwing punches when Ryer and I intervened. We split them up. Ryer's guy just walked away, deciding it wasn't worth it anymore. The guy I was dealing with, he was less cooperative with me. He grabbed a wine bottle and smashed it off one tabletop, and pointed it at me.

"That will not be your best move. You should decide to cooperate and set that down. I will only ask nicely once." I sat sharply.

"Don't tell me what I should do, you bastard!"

"Sasha... Don't engage with him. He is armed." Ryer said, touching my shoulder.

"Here, hold my jacket. I like it. I don't want it stained with his blood."

"Sasha." He hissed, but took my jacket.

"Last chance to decide..—-"

"Fuck you!"

He moved at me with the bottle, and I sidestepped him, wrapping my one arm around his neck and tightening my hold. While yanking the bottle out of his left hand and tossing it away, slicing the tip of my thumb in the process.
