Mike Zacharias pt.2 ~19~

Mike couldn’t believe that this was happening, he couldn’t believe that he even agreed to this. Working with the underground, he should’ve refused their help. He was working with criminals for goodness sakes!

Kenny and Kuchel left him and Hanji alone with the rest of the underground. No one said a word to each other, it was as clear as day that neither one of them felt comfortable with this situation. They didn’t know if they could trust one another just yet. Someone could easily sell the other out, which could lead to one of them getting arrested. If anyone found out that a police officer was working with the underground it could lead to his arrest, ruining the Survey Corps reputation. On the other hand, he could easily arrest the people who are working for the underground, with reinforcements of course, but it would leave them with very little chance of finding Levi. He couldn’t risk that, finding Levi was their main priority. Sure they were going to break a few laws but as long as no one found out then there should be no trouble.

“What are you doing here!?” Kuchel slapped his elbow, he responded quickly by slapping her elbow back. “You said that I should bring the underground!”

“Not to Hanji’s house you doofus! Did you forget that she’s pregnant!”

“Kuchel you’re letting your accent slip again”

“You think I don’t know that! I’m angry, of course, it’s going to come out!” She rubbed her temples together. As ferocious Kenny was he was still a big old goof.

“Tell your goons to have the meeting at your base. We can’t stress Hanji out anymore. She needs her rest” Kenny nodded at her and they made their way back inside with everyone else.

“Alright, we’re heading out! We’re moving this to the place” The five of Kenny’s accomplices gave a steady nod at him and they quietly moved out. The second they were out of sight Mike made his way toward Kenny. He firmly put his hand on Kenny’s shoulder, making direct eye contact with him.

“Are you sure we can trust them”

Kenny couldn’t help but laugh at his remark, oh how time has flown. “That’s like saying you can’t trust me, boy. How long have we known each other, what sixteen years now? When you were just a scrawny little boy”

Everything he said was true, Mike had known Kenny ever since middle school through Levi of course. When they first met he was very intimidated by the Alpha, the way he gave him death glares whenever he was too close to Levi, even the way he held his pistol scared him. At the time he was confused as to why Kenny kept such a sharp eye on him, now he understands that it was all to make sure that Levi was safe. Mike has respect for the man, sure he was a criminal but he wasn’t a monster, he still loves his family.

“The difference between you and them is that I’ve known you for sixteen years, I’ve only known them for fifteen minutes. I don’t know who they are or what they’re gonna pull”

“Trust me, boy, they ain’t gonna pull nothing. But if they do” When Mike looked down he could see the pistol in Kenny’s hands. “They’ll certainly pay for it”

The venom that spit out of his mouth was all too noticeable. It wasn’t a threat, it was a promise.

“Fine, I’ll put my faith in you and your team”

A grin slipped on Kenny’s face and he slapped Mike’s back. “Atta boy, now come on let’s get to business”

Mike swatted his hand away from his shoulder. "Where exactly are we going?"

"You'll find out soon enough"
