EJ POV:
"Ricky I'm home!" I yell as I walk in the door.
No answer.
I put my bag in our room and go into the kitchen and see him and the kids outside. I open the sliding door and walk out onto the deck.
"No, you're not getting away." Ricky says as he picks up Taylor from behind.
She squeals and starts flailing her legs as he spins her around.
"What is Mason doing in that tree?" I say.
"Daddy!" Taylor jumps out of Ricky's arms and runs over to me.
"Oh, hey babe. I didn't know you were home." Ricky says.
"Just got back."
"And I have no clue what he's doing." He walks over to the big tree.
He grabs onto the branches and lifts himself up.
"Mason!"
"Ah! God, Ricky you scared me." He jumps and drops his book.
"Sorry, EJ doesn't want you in the trees. You know how he is." Ricky jumps down from the tree.
"I thought he wasn't supposed to get home till tomorrow?"
"Well he looks pretty here to me." Ricky looks at me.
"Oh...... hi!" Mason waves to me.
Mason gets down and grabs his book, they start walking over to the deck.
"Hey Mason, you excited for tomorrow?" I ask.
"What's tomorrow?"
"You're turning 15."
"Oh, eh."
"What's 'eh'?" Ricky nudges his shoulder.
"I've never really celebrated my birthday before."
Ricky and I look at each other smiling.
"Don't, please. I know what happens when you guys do that." Mason groans.
"Oh come on, please. Just let us spoil you for once?"
"I don't want to get too used to it though."
"Why not?"
"What if I get sent somewhere else? I mean, I know you want to adopt me but there's still a chance I could end up with someone else."
"Do you want that?" I ask.
"I don't know." He shrugs his shoulders.
"Well we'll talk about it after Taylor goes to sleep ok?" Ricky whispers in his ear.
Mason nods.
We adopted Taylor when she was a baby, so she knows us as her parents. However, we recently started fostering Mason about a eight months ago. It hasn't ever been certain or even disused a whole lot weather we'll adopt Mason or if he'll go to someone else.
Still something we're trying to figure out.

Ricky POV:
"Mason," I shake his shoulder.
He wakes up.
"What are you doing in here? It's one o'clock."
" we wanted to wish you a happy birthday!"
"Dad, it's too early to be this happy." He rolls back over- wait, did he just call Ricky 'Dad'?!
"Oh, s-sorry. I didn't mean to say that." He adds.
"No, it's okay. Speaking of which; We have your birthday present if you wanna open it now."
Mason leans over and turns on his lamp. And sits up. I sit on the edge of his bed and hand it to him.
He opens the envelope and unfolds it.
"We weren't sure how you felt about it but we wanted to see. You obviously don't have to..." I start.
"Can I have a pen?" Mason cuts me off.
Ricky smiles and goes over to Mason's desk, grabs a pen and hands it to him. He signs his name on the papers and hands them to us. We then both sign our names.
"Well, by law, you're now officially apart of our family." I say.
"Even though you always have been." Ricky adds.
He leans over and hugs us.
"I love you guys." He says tearfully.
"We love you to buddy." Ricky says.
