Tears

2 months have passed and a few things have changed, one big thing being the rooms. Since everyone's room was quite large a bathroom was added to everyone's room if they wanted one and they were able to choose how it was designed. A bar was added and a new agent joined the protocol, her name is fade but she doesn't really chat much. She can see into your darkest fears and that put some people in Valorant on edge but everyone slowly got used to her overtime.

Phoenix and Yoru haven't really been interacting with each other since what happened at ascent. They went on other missions together but they didn't chat much, Phoenix was being over protective with Yoru and that annoyed the riftwalker. It made them get into arguments and the riftwalker avoided the firebird at times because of it.

After finally coming back from yet another mission Yoru ignored the firebird and went straight to his room. Time went by and night came, everyone had dinner except the riftwalker since he just locked himself in his room. It was around 12am and most of the agents were asleep or getting ready to sleep unless they were a night owl of course.

Yoru was woken up from his slumber from hunger, the riftwalker hasn't eaten anything since before his mission and so his stomach was growling at him. He sighed annoyed by his own hunger and got up to go to the kitchen, hoping not to run into anyone. As Yoru peeked into the kitchen he sighed in relief to see that it was completely empty, the riftwalker just woke up and wasn't in the mood to deal with anyone.

He walked into the kitchen and searched around a bit to see what he would make for himself and in the end he just decided that he would have a ramen cup, it was something quick he could just heat up and be done with. As he went to the cabinet that usually had the instant noodles cups he had to go on his tippy toes and really reach for it. Once he was about to grab one of the last ones he accidentally pushed it a bit deeper into the cabinet, the riftwalker swore in Japanese and tried again to reach it and with quite a bit of struggle he finally got it. Yoru pulled it out of cabinet and sighed but right after let out a little surprised noise when he felt someone wrap their arms around him and nuzzle their face in the side of the riftwalkers neck.

"Yoru..." The voice belonged to the firebird and it sounded raspy from being exhausted and drained

Yoru tried to get out of the firebirds grasp but he didn't budge, yoru let out a sigh and didn't say anything for awhile, both just listening to the ticking of the clock in the kitchen until the riftwalker broke the silence

"What do you want Phoenix? Can't you just let me eat in peace?"

Phoenix didn't say anything and just held the riftwalker tighter, yoru could feel the firebirds breath tickle his neck

"Phoenix! Let go of me, I'm hungry and want to eat somethi-" the riftwalker didn't finish what he was saying when he felt a drop of something land of his neck, and then another

"butterfly...please..." The firebirds shakey voice spoke as more tears fell "let me just hold you...it's been so long since I've held you..."

The riftwalker stayed still, listening to the firebird this upset hurt Yoru causing his eyes to fill with tears as well. It didn't help that Yoru also missed the firebirds warm touch so much. The riftwalker put the ramen cup down on the counter and placed his hands on Phoenixs, he then with both thumbs gently caressed the firebirds hands.

"stop crying idiot...I'll let you hold me for the rest of the night if you really need but..just stop crying...I hate it...I hate hearing you this upset..."

With the riftwalkers touch the firebird calmed down faster

"I'm sorry...I just couldn't handle it anymore...we don't spend time together anymore and we always argue...you've also been ignoring me...and it..hurts me..a lot butterfly"

"I...I'm..sorry for hurting you...but Phoenix...you've been acting different with me ever since that mission on ascent...it irritates me that you think I can't protect myself"

Phoenix stays quiet for a bit before answering

"I...know you can protect yourself..I just feel the need to be by your side just in case anything happens...that time on ascent I wasn't there for you and the clone of me was taking advantage of you...when I saw that happening I felt like I was on fire. I don't want my clone to be the one to just mess around with you and in the end kill you..." Phoenix said this as he thought back and imagined the dead Yoru clone that they killed on ascent, blood was all over the clone and he slowly bleed to death.

Without realizing it Phoenix started to tear up again but was soothed once again by the riftwalkers touch "I..just can't imagine what I would do if I just saw the real you just lying on the ground dead..."

"I'm not dying anytime soon dumbass, I may be a bit smaller but I can take care of myself perfectly fine. I may need to work on my strength a bit but that's a piece of cake to do"

Phoenix lightly chuckles
"Only a bit smaller? I think your being a bit soft on yourself there bruv"

Yoru lightly pinches one of Phoenixs fingers and sighs but then a small smile forms on the riftwalkers face

"Owwwww, what was that for, can you really not handle the truth? I'm just trying to help you out mate"

"Alright, alright, I get it, I'm short so just shut up about it already" Yoru rolls his eyes even though the firebird can't see it

Phoenix sighed "I'll try being less protective but I'll still always be worried about you"

Yoru intertwined both his hands fingers with the firebirds "I know you will be but remember what our job is, okay? If I'm down and the spike needs to be defused while there's still enemies, you can't stay with me, you have to go and do your job."

Phoenix didn't reply and just stayed quiet holding the riftwalker, Yoru stayed quiet as well. Both men just stayed like that for awhile enjoying each others touch once again
