"Rui!" I ran to my fiancé's side with a flyer in hand. It was for a fundraiser for children with cancer and other life-threatening diseases. I hoped that he would help me raise money.
"Greetings." He looked at my flyer. "What's this?"
I quickly realized what he was referring to. "It's a fundraiser to help raise money on finding cures to life threatening illnesses and help children who are suffering from them. I was hoping you would join me." I smiled brightly.
"Helping children not suffer as badly from disease? And on top of that, I get to spend my day with you?" Rui questioned. "I don't see why I would ever refuse."
"Great!" I cheered. "It starts later tonight. I wonder if any of our friends will be there!"
"We'll just have to see. I'm sure Saki will be there." He was right. Due to her sickness, she had a rough childhood. She probably will help other kids have a better time than her.
Rui held my hand as we walked to the building that the fundraiser took place. The exterior didn't look fancy, but not cheap either. It seemed rather welcoming.
Unsurprisingly, Saki and the rest of Leo/Need were there too. Akito and Toya weren't far off. Wait — were they holding hands too? We looked to the right and saw Kanade and Mafuyu.
"It seems that many people heard about the event. Great!" Rui smiled as he looked around. "That means more money will be donated for the children."
I nodded. "We haven't ever gotten inside, and we already see so many of our friends, and many strangers too!" It was great that so many people decided to raise money for the less fortunate. It shows that humanity isn't bad at all sometimes.
"Indeed." He chuckled softly. "Now then, should we continue onward?"
"Of course." And that I really meant.
There were about 70 people in the building. The place was big enough to fit everyone without it seeming crowded, but not so big that entire hallways were vacant.
"This is awesome! All these people want to help the kids in need!" I perked up and swung my left hand — the one that Rui was holding and the one that had my ring on it — to show my excitement. Rui seemed okay with it.
"Yes." He nodded slightly. "Hopefully we can raise plenty of money."
I heard a gasp come from behind us. "Oh my god! Those boys are adorable!" Was she talking about us? I looked around and saw no other boys that would have piqued her interest.
"I know right? Oh! The blondie has a ring!" Another girl spoke, describing me to a T. I nudged Rui softly to indicate that they were talking about us. He immediately took the hint.
He took out a notepad and wrote on it. 'Are you uncomfortable?' I took his pen and wrote a reply, in notably sloppy handwriting. 'Kinda. Are you?' He nodded.
The girls continued to fangirl. "It looks like purple guy and blondie are a couple! Hopefully they break up so I can take the blondie!" Rui tensed.
"Excuse me?" He shouted surprisingly loud. "What the hell is your problem?" The fangirls froze.
"We're sorry! Your blondie is just cute, that's all." They panicked.
He paused momentarily. "Just 'we're sorry' isn't enough. Isn't it obvious that he's my fiancé?" One of the girls began to cry. "Don't show your face around here again. You are a disgrace!"
Both of the girls were sobbing. I reached out to Rui. "Listen... isn't that a bit much? You could have just told them to back off."
"I'm sorry, Fufu." He pulled me into a hug.
"I'm not mad." I sighed. "But be more careful. They've already left, so there isn't much we can do now."
"Okay." He let go of me. "I'll be more careful from now on. I suppose things revolving you just make me lose control of my emotions."
While it was nice to know that I meant that much to him, it wasn't entirely an excuse. At least he promised to be more careful.
I brushed his long strand of hair and smiled.
"We managed to raise a lot of money!" I cheered as we walked to the car. "It'll be great for the kids!"
Rui took my hand and kissed it softly. "Of course. It's great how much attention this event got."
I kind of wanted to bring up those girls from a few hours prior, as it was on my mind. I was thinking about his reaction more than anything.
One important part of relationships was telling your partner how you feel, right? I sighed to myself. "So... did you mean what you said to those girls earlier?"
I apparently caught him by surprise, because he just stayed silent for a moment. "Mostly. I don't believe that they were particularly idiots or disgraces, but I still hate them."
We got in the car and I chuckled to myself. It was almost cute that Rui defended me like that.
