Izuku was so excited that he could hardly contain himself. It's his tenth birthday and a couple of weeks ago,  when his mother asked him what he wanted to do for his birthday, he requested that they go to the new aquarium. He didn't have any friends, so he decided a party wasn't worth it. Wasting his mother’s money on party favors, cake, ice cream, invitations, decorations, and presents didn't sound fun. Besides, he loves fresh water and salt water creatures! There were so many different kinds. Some looked scary, others were just strange, and there were a lot that were beautiful! The birthday boy was vibrating with happiness on the car ride over to the aquarium.

He's really glad his mom could get tickets. He heard the place was always full of people, so he was worried they wouldn't be able to get in on his birthday. Once they arrived, Inko told Izuku to stay with her so they didn't get lost and like a good birthday boy, he did so. When they approached the building, it had murals of cartoon sea creatures on the outside as decoration, which only spurred Izuku to move faster, tugging his poor mother along. Though, when she complained about her feet hurting, he slowed down. They entered the building, and there was a little lobby area where you could talk to the worker at a tall desk that Izuku couldn't see over. Inko gave their tickets to the woman, and they went on their way.

The place was kind of set up like an easy maze. Patrons would go down a hall with walls of water, make a turn, and then go up the hallway on the other side. Rinse and repeat. It was slightly claustrophobic, but that was okay. Inko and Izuku saw many sea creatures, and they were so bright and pretty. It was just magnificent, but this wasn't all. There were a few main attractions at the aquarium. They were half human, half marine animals. One was a young, extremely rare, red shark that was half human. His name was Red Riot, and apparently, he's really nice. Kids and parents alike love to see him. There was also a large orca that could fight.

It wasn't actually fighting more like choreographed fights, so no one would get hurt, but little kids didn't know that. If patrons sat in the front row of his show, they would have to wear a poncho because he loves to splash fans. His name was Gang Orca. He and Red Riot are who most come to see from what Izuku read on a few internet forums. His mother told him not to go to places like that, but he always found himself there. Those attractions are not why Izuku wanted to visit the aquarium for his birthday. His reason was the third half-human half-aquatic creature. There's one area that Izuku begged his mother to get tickets for. It was held in Izuku's opinion as the main attraction of the whole Toshinori Aquarium Palace or TAP for short, like tap water.

The attraction is why he wanted to visit the "Palace" specifically. The creature had its own section just like Red Riot and Gang Orca. Its tank was just as large, and it held the most beautiful merman Izuku had ever seen. Well, he's only seen a few blurry or far away pictures online, but he knows the fish boy's name is Dynamight, and he's fifteen in human years. However, he's not very friendly from what he's read from the reviews. Izuku still wanted to see him, though, which is why he resorted to begging his mother for the first time in his life. Merfolk were extremely rare to even spot out in the ocean, much less catch one. They were elegant creatures that could breathe both air and water.

Izuku did in-depth research by reading Wookiepedia and watching mermaid movies. There weren't very many mermen, though, which Izuku found odd because at some point, people mixed up Siren and Mermaid lore. They're two different creatures. One is half fish and half human, while the other has a beautiful voice that lures ships to crash themselves, and the creatures themselves are kind of ugly. They had the head of a woman, but the body of a bird. It mortified Izuku a little when he found that information. Inko conceded to her son's wishes, though, so now he was standing in front of the wall of water waiting to see the beautiful merman.

Even though he wasn't like the other two, he was still the main attraction, and Izuku wanted to see him. The water was completely clear, which meant the workers kept the pools or tanks, whatever you wanted to call them, very clean. There were other kids there to see the merman, but it didn't seem like he would be showing up to see them. Hours went by, and kids were dragged off by their parents screaming that they wanted to see the mermaid. Izuku frowned and mentally corrected them, merman not mermaid. Well, unless Dynamight identifies as a mermaid, then of course Izuku will respect that. He doesn't want to make the creature upset in any way before he even gets to know them.
