I was scheduled to fight Kurapika after Gon's match, guess I have that old man to thank.

When I had my short interview with the Chairman of the Hunter Association, Netero, I told him I only wished to engage Kurapika in battle. When the pairs were first revealed, I felt a flutter of excitement course through my chest, but the look on my opponent's face made me feel a tinge of regret.

Gon's battle was one of the worst fights I've seen. I almost could not bear to watch, but I forced myself to keep my eyes on the action. Eventually, after countless injuries, Gon won.

I sauntered over to my side, and a particular blond boy walked to his. We locked eyes for a few moments, my fierce optics contrasting his dejected ones. We held each other's gaze until the beginning of our battle was announced.

I sprung forward, blasting toward my opponent who seemed to not have much fight within him. When I was centimeters away from him, I whispered a few words only he could hear.

"Kurapika,"

"Fight."

My eyes widened in surprise; as soon as the few spoken words registered in his mind, he lashed at me. I managed to evade his precise jab at the last second, but I didn't have time to celebrate. Another hand flew in the direction of my face, grabbing for a handful of hair. Ducking my head, I leaped back in order to form some distance between the two of us, but the blond only followed. The sorrowful expression had completely disappeared from him and seemed to be replaced by an indifferent look. He didn't see me as a friend in those moments; I was his enemy.

I clenched my jaw, gritting my teeth together as I thought of a way to attack without dealing too much damage. My plan to leave him with only minor injuries flew out the window as soon as his fist connected with my gut. The wind was knocked out of me, but I regained my composure in an instant. I cemented my feet on the ground and used his own momentum against him. As his body was still moving forward, I grabbed his wrist with both my hands, turned, and yanked him over my shoulder.

A thud resonated through the building as Kurapika hit the floor, but he didn't stay down for more than a second. He shot up, grabbed for my neck, and yanked me down with him. I fell on top of him but was quickly flipped beneath him.

It seemed like I had lost this fight; I was on my stomach with my arms pinned behind me. I frantically kicked my legs up and tried to shake my body, waiting for the slightest lift of weight. As soon as I felt the Kurta shift his body to secure my legs, I used the strength in my legs to bring my torso up from the ground. A few gasps traversed the crowd as my situation brightened; I was now the one in control.

With our positions switched, I found myself sitting atop Kurapika, my legs embracing his sides. His nose was ever so scrunched, and his eyebrows were furrowed. Just as I was about to smirk, I felt myself lifting from the ground.

'I forgot, he's stronger than he looks.'

At this point, one minute has passed, but no progress has been made. We stood before each other, both panting as we recollected our thoughts, wondering what the other will do.

'Can't let him regain his energy, might as well attack now.'

Once again, I sprung forward, only this time I wasn't holding back as much. I stopped a short distance away from the boy in front of me and brought my hands up to my face. My feet were shoulders length apart, knees bent, and I twisted my hips as I sent a fist shooting toward Kurapika's jaw.

"I surrender."

Just before my hit could connect, I stopped the punch in midair. My shoulders slumped, and my posture relaxed.

"Good choice, Kurta."

"Oh, come on. I could've deflected that, I just didn't want to break your spirit."

"I'm sure everyone in here can agree that you're lying. I definitely had you there!"

"Whatever you think." Kurapika sighed, his tense demeanor disappearing. A pleasant expression rested on his features, and his eyes fluttered shut.

"Good luck fighting Hisoka, you're gonna need it."

"You're right, you sure did tire me out."

A giggle escaped my lips, and I sent a small wave his way before leaving the room in search of Gon.

An hour passed, and I grew bored of watching over the green-themed boy. Stretching my limbs, I decided to watch the rest of the battles, hoping I didn't miss Kurapika's battle against Hisoka. As soon as I entered the room a cold, unpleasant aura enveloped my being.

Gittarackur, who was now Illumi, stood before Killua with his arm outstretched, reaching for the silver-haired boy's head. He surrendered after hearing his brother's threat against Gon, but he still looked completely defeated. Once Bodoro's match came up, nobody even noticed the young boy sneak up behind the old man.

Everyone became a Hunter, except for Killua, and, well, Bodoro. The next hour passed quickly, we had the benefits of a Hunter License explained to us, and Gon wrecked Illumi's arm.

After the major events passed, I figured it was time to say my goodbyes, and leave with Kurapika. I planned to find the Phantom Troupe by his side whether he liked it or not.

He seemed to be standing with Gon and Leorio, so it was fine for me to approach. We all exchanged farewells and wished each other luck before going our own ways; Gon and Leorio went to find Killua, while Kurapika and I left with the intention of gathering more information on the Spiders, and also finding a sponsor for ourselves.

I'm not going to be following the exact plot, hence I'm skipping the Zoldyck family arc. I hope no one minds!
