A few days passed before the hour of the interview for the bodyguard job rolled around. The two of you walked together, not uttering a word as a tall gate came into view. The area you were in was an immense change from the muddy city you were in not long ago; this place was obviously looked after by numerous workers. The freshly cut, green blades of grass shimmered in the sunlight - it was obvious they had been watered earlier that morning, and that whoever lived here was wealthy enough to care about the land surrounding their property.
The path you and Kurapika found yourselves on eventually met the gate, and now that you were closer you got a good look at the building hidden behind the walls. The mansion was huge, you would not have been surprised if it was a hotel. The architecture was outdated, hinting at the building's age, though accompanied by the greenery it only seeped elegance. In surrounding trees, birds have nestled away in their nests, a pattern of chirps escaping their beaks to form pleasant songs.
A small smile crept on your lips as you admired the scene, though your serenity was interrupted by the sound of a doorbell, and a moment later, Kurapika's voice.
"I was sent by the employment agency. My name is Kurapika."
Noting the lack of acknowledgment of your presence, you resisted the urge to roll your eyes. A low rumbling filled the air as the gate began opening, and the blond quickly fell back into pace. You walked a few steps behind him, watching his cold strides as he approached the entrance to the building, not a hint of hesitation or uncertainty detectable in his movements. With each step he took, his long hair bounced accordingly, seeming to be a much lighter colour due to the brightness of the sun. Dogs resting on the grass encompassing the trail perked up as your companion neared, and it did not take long for them to feel threatened by his emotionless demeanour. Several Dobermans stood up, growls rumbling throughout their lean bodies as they focused their attention on Kurapika. Not giving them so much as a glance, the boy continued along the path, and a few dogs followed him from behind.
Apparently, you did not seem as menacing as the older boy, as the animals only spared you a swift sniff before losing interest, directing their complete attention to the young male. The growls did not pause for a moment up until the two of you entered the building through a set of tall doors, decorated with patterns and pillars to their side.
Kurapika pushed one of the doors open, and you slipped in right before it shut. The room that greeted you was empty, spacious and very clean - your shoes squeaked against the smooth tiles beneath you, and the sound echoed throughout the hallway. To the side, an old, grey-haired butler stood, dressed in black from head to toe.
"Welcome, we're happy that you could join us." The grey-haired man spoke, his thick moustache bobbing up and down as his mouth opened and closed. He cleared his throat before inviting you to follow him down the hallway, eventually entering an elevator and travelling to the third floor. As you exited, he beckoned you to once again trail after him, and after a short walk, you found yourself and Kurapika standing before a door. You examined the white door as the butler once again began to speak, motioning to the door with his hand.
"If you'd be so kind as to wait here."
In a heartbeat, the butler pushed the door open, presenting a large room with numerous other individuals already inside. You and the blond entered, not saying a word as heads turned to watch you. You met each glare you received, and you took a seat in an available cushioned chair as you waited for something to happen.
