CHAPTER SEVEN

-: sixth year :-

── IN WHICH SECRETS
ARE REVEALED

. . .

"THERE'S SOMETHING YOU SHOULD KNOW." Draco's words rang clear over the yard as they stopped before the stables. He had dismounted first, and Blaise was quick to follow, Cerise watching as her twin held her horse steady as she swung her leg over and climbed down, landing on the hardened concrete without much noise.

Her eyes flashed with danger, much as Blaise and Theo's rang clear with concern at the statement - nothing good could ever quite come of something like that, it sounded too serious and too worrying and perhaps Draco should've chosen a better way to say it because now Blaise and Theo were watching as Cerise grabbed his arm and dragged him away.

"Are they going to make out again or is this serious?" Theo hummed, leading his horse to the block as Blaise ignored his question and instead began the process of leading the horses back into their respective stables. He, too, dismounted, and copied his best friend's actions and led his chosen horse back to his stable, doing the very minimum of care necessary before a stable hand took over, and he wandered back into the courtyard to find Blaise stood eerily still.

His gaze was set on the head of silvery blond hair almost attached to the head of glossy black stood outside  of the boundaries of their listening, voices lowered with their backs facing towards the.

"I don't like this." Blaise told him, barely even acknowledging his presence as Theo had approached. "She's never been a... public person, but all this secrecy is driving me mad."

Theo scoffed, hands digging into his pockets. "You don't say. I've never seen you look this tense, not even in the potion practical last year. I'd offer you a massage but I don't think you'd appreciate it like anyone else would."

"This is worse, Nott. I hate it. I don't think she should be doing this, all this helping him." Blaise shook his head as his arms tightened in a cross over his stomach. "And I reckon you agree." His gaze turned to focus on the boy stood beside him finally. "Don't you?"

Theo raised his hands in mock surrender. "Don't bring me into your family drama. I have enough shit going on already with my dad, don't you think? Besides, what do you expect?"

"What the fuck is that supposed to mean?"

"What the fuck do you think it means, Zabini?" Theo asked and let out a sigh. "Merlin... fine, if I really have to explain everything... Lucius went to prison. Mrs Malfoy's not devoted to the cause - no, I shouldn't word it like that - what I'm trying to get at is the very Victorian ideals for some of these proper pure-bloods of the Sacred Twenty Eight. The men go out and do the work, the women hold everything together. That's how it was, and that's the ideals the Malfoys adopted.... and whose surprised really, considering Narcissa was a Black and all." He added, in a low tone.

"Get to the point before I beat Draco up about it," Blaise grumbled. "Please?"

"Keep the testosterone to yourself, mate, I'm getting there. Lucius is in prison, now Mrs Malfoy doesn't have the one person entirely devoted to protect herself and her son." Theo continued on. "Draco now has to act as the man of the house, so he has to take on that role, become a Death Eater... everything. Lucius already infiltrated Hogwarts with the Dark Lord's diary, now it's Draco's turn. He's been destined for this since he was born, and now that Lucius isn't around he's not got a choice anymore."
