Nagisa and the students were both excited and nervous at the same time, but both for different reasons. The students because their midterms started the next day. Nagisa because if the questions the students were about to ask.
All of the students had been studying, some more than others, but they had still all at least looked in a textbook. All apart from Juro. Nagisa had attempted many times to get him to study. He reminded him of the deal multiple times in the hope that this would be a reward enough, but it seemed he just didn't care. That was it. The reason he wasn't trying. He didn't care about anything. Now he knew the problem, he could fix it.
"Hey Juro. Are you ok. Is everything alright at home?" The bluenette asked.
"Yeah. Why." The boy replied in a dull tone.
"It's just that you don't seem to care about anything. I wonder if that's due to something happening at home."
"I mean kinda."
"Care to elaborate?"
"Why do you need to know anyway? My home life doesn't concern you."
"But your school life does and your home life appears to be negatively effecting your school life. Besides, your well-being matters to me. If I can help, I will."
"Fine. It's because I am the tenth child in my house. The other nine are all boys somehow. The only attention my parents ever gave me was when I moved to class 5, and then it was only to tell me off for it."
"I see. Don't you think doing well will bring attention to yourself as well?"
"No. My parents don't care. They care about my brothers who already have a job and are getting promotions. But not about me. Nothing I do matters. It's all pointless."
"Don't study for recognition. Study to do well. Once you have a job, maybe your parents will be more attentive."
"Yeah. Maybe. Now, can you leave so I can 'study'."
Nagisa sighed and walked off. This one will be a tough nut to crack.
--------------------------TIME SKIP------------------------
It was the day of the exams. Feelings of nervousness and excitement filled the air and were so dense you could physically feel a change of air pressure when you walked into the room. Nagisa stood at the front of the class, looking equally as nervous. He wanted the kids to do well enough so that they could get good grades, but not get onto the top fifty. If they did, he would have a torrent of questions to answer.
"Students. You are about to begin your midterm exams. Now, we have studied a lot for these and there will not be anything new on these papers that you have not seen before. Take them one step at a time. Look at each part of the question. Break it down. Answer what you can, and the rest of it will come to you. But, anyway, good look. I'm rooting for you."
The class smiled back. They had been excited even more by Nagisa's speech. They felt ready.
"Oh, one more thing. As I am just your training teacher, I cannot moderate these exams. You will be watched over today by Ms Nakasima, the caretaker."
The faces of every student fell. Ms Nakasima. The woman looked like she was inhuman, and acted like it too. She was known to beat students who got in her way, particularly those from class 5. At that moment, she waddled in with a stack of exam papers in hand.
"Good look." Nagisa said before leaving.
The exams were a mixed bag. Some students suck as Chie and Saiki flew through the papers with moderate ease. Some questions stood out as being rather tricky, but all answerable. The rest of the class however, felt like they would never be able to answer the questions at any point in their life. When the exams were over, those students plodded out with sullen faces.
