You're so hot it just burned my eyes
Jiyeong's P.O.V
꧁꧂꧁꧂꧁꧂Dinner had finally come, I started to walk towards the table serving the food but stopped in my tracks when the one and only Sae-Byeok emerged from the back room. My heart had leapt into my throat, and I excitedly ran over to her, wrapping my arms above her shoulders.
"Sae-Byeok! You're ok!" I exclaimed with indefinable happiness. All of my worries can be put to rest for now.
"Yes, yes, I'm fine. Be careful." Sae-Byeok responded, lightly hugging me back. I had not realized before how much I missed being in her arms. It was so comforting and warm; I want her to feel the same whenever I hug her.
Stepping back, I examined her leg, it was wrapped in a medium-sized bandage, and I assume they stitched it together.
"You look pale." I express my concern, cupping her face with my hands. Sae-Byeok slightly twitched under my grasp, she brought her own hands up to gently guide mine back down to my sides.
"Have you been crying?" She asks, obviously changing the subject. Shit, she is right. I completely forgot about that.
"Um- no." I refuse, awkwardly trying to avoid eye contact. Did that lie sound too obvious? Damn, I really am a bad liar.
"Why were you crying?" She demanded, putting on a cold expression. Why was I crying? The answer seemed to be right at the tip of my tongue, but too far away to grasp.
Could it be that I missed Sae-Byeok? That I worried for her future, or mine? Or could it be that I dreaded what will happen during that last game? It could be either one of these, or it could be all of them combined. I mean, we may never know.
"I don't know why. Maybe it's because you're so hot, it just burned my eyes." I joked, bending over to laugh at my own joke.
"You're not funny. You are literally the least funny person here." She answered, crossing her arms. Her words came out sarcastically and it made me extremely happy. "But still, if you were... crying for me, it's not worth it." She added, walking off and leaving me confused.
She is absolutely worth it. How dare she say such a thing about herself!
"Hey!" I exclaimed, running over to catch up to her.
"Don't be stupid, of course it is worth it!"Sae-Byeok continued to walk, picking up her dinner box. I did the same, but quickly made my way back to her.
"So, tell me. What happened back there? Did they take good care of you?" I ask, trying to ease the awkward silence as we ate the cold, plain rice, and overcooked chicken. At least it is not undercooked, I guess.
"Well, I'm not dead." She simply answered, making me roll my eyes in annoyance.
"No shit. I meant; did they care for you properly? There has to be a catch to their medical assistance, right? They brought us here to die."
"You're right, there has to be a catch. But I was passed out the entire time, all I know is that they stitched up my leg and wrapped it in a bandage. It makes sense that they would help me though, without me, there is no last game."
I sighed, settling into the covers and resting my head on the bed frame behind me. What kind of shit hole did I land myself in? What atrocious choices have I made in the past that put me in here?
One good thing did come out of this experience though, Sae-Byeok.
