After fifteen minutes of sitting alone with my thoughts, the doctor finally called my name. I picked up my bag, seeing as Luke wasn't here to leave it with any more, and made my way to the same small exam room as before.
"Hi Carter, how are you doing today?" He smiled at me.
"Not too bad, just preparing myself for the worst really"
Well, it wasn't a lie. But I just wasn't sure if I was talking about my wrist or my friendships.
"Well prepare no more, you don't need another cast. I'm pleased with the results of your x-rays, your arm looks as good as new" I sighed in relief.
"That is the best news I've had all day" The doctor chuckled along with me.
"I will advise taking it very easy for a bit. I know the doctor you saw that night said light skating was okay with the cast. But I would steer clear of skating all together for at least a week, maybe more. Although it is fully healed, it's going to feel very fragile and unprotected without the cast on for at least a week. I'd hate to see you back in here any time soon" I nodded. That was going to be hard, but I'd be able to do it. Especially now that I was talking to Lexi again.
"I'll keep off it for a while" I promised as he smiled.
"Well then Miss Pruitt, you're free to go. I meant what I said, I hope I don't see you around any time soon" I smiled as I left the damn hospital, hopefully for the last time while I was at college.
When I got out the doors, the realisation of having no way home hit me. I knew I couldn't ask Luke to come get me. Tyler and Bunker didn't have cars, Tate and Lexi were having a date afternoon and I didn't have Ripley's phone number. The only other person I knew with a car was Fraser.
Luke's words stuck in my mind about the way Fraser had treated me in the past. As though we get to a good, almost friendly place, then he turns it all off again and quickly. But I knew I didn't have much other choice. I wasn't familiar with any bus schedules, nor should I waste money on an uber. So I called him.
"Pruitt?"
"Hey Fraser, I uh kinda need a ride. Can you help me?"
"Where are you? I thought Luke took you to the hospital? Is your car fucked?"
"I'm at the hospital, long story but Luke's got my car and I'm not calling him to come get me."
"Okay, what hospital?"
"North Memorial, it's a twenty-minute drive away. Only if you're sure-"
"I already said okay, I'll see you in twenty."
"Thanks"
I saw Fraser pull into the hospital parking lot and sighed as I walked down the steps and climbed into his car.
"How's your arm?" Was the first thing Fraser asked me as he pulled out of the hospital parking lot. I looked at him with bewilderment flashing over my expression.
"You're not going to ask me about what happened with Bennett?"
"After seeing the state he left you in, I don't really give a fuck about Bennett anymore. Is your arm good?"
"Yeah, it's good now. Just need to take it easy for the next little while. No skating for at least a week"
"Shit, really?"
"Any slight knock could fuck it up again and both the doctor and I agreed never to see each other. Would be a bit of a violation to go back on a promise like that and end up back in hospital" Fraser snickered and shook his head as he drove.
