Y/N is angry and frightened. As soon as they are dismissed to go, she stomps her way all the way back to the shack. "He found us again. Everywhere we go, he shows up to steal our fortunes," Y/N swings the door open.

"How can he get our fortune as a gym teacher?" Violet asks, following her friend.

"There's treachery lurking in most exercise programs," Klaus sighs, sitting down. He stares at the floor, watching the crabs scurry off when Violet flips on the light.

"I just can't believe he fooled everyone again," Y/N sits next to him.

"Not everyone," Duncan swings their door open.

Klaus and Y/N glance at each other, slight amusement playing on their faces.

"You are very kind, but we can't let you get involved in this," Violet faces them.

"Violet's right, Count Olaf is too dangerous," Y/N looks at the two.

"He's too dangerous for you to face alone," Duncan stares at the girl. "We could run away."

"We tried that," Klaus stands, rolling his eyes. "We ended up at a lumber mill, and Count Olaf still found us there."

Suddenly, the door swings open, revealing Jeremy and Carmelita.

"Get out of my way you cake sniffing orphan!" the brat yells.

Jeremy begrudgingly shuffles out of the girls way. She wastes no time beginning to tap dance and sing a song about it being sundown.

"That didn't even rhyme," Jeremy scrunches his nose.

"Only cake sniffing orphans care about poetic form!" Carmelita huffs and stomps off.

Jeremy merely shrugs and turns back to the others, "We uh, better go. I've disobeyed Olaf enough."

With that, Isadora and Duncan said their goodbyes and the Baudelaire's, Y/N, and Jeremy were off to the field. They are greeted by a shrill whistle being blown in the darkness.

"Punctuation, orphans! Punctuation!" Olaf tsk's.

"Punctuation?" Klaus asks.

"The art of arriving not late," the ugly old man says.

"That's punctuality," Y/N rolls her eyes.

If Vice Principal Nero wasn't standing next to him, Olaf would've slapped the poor girl.

"And you said to be here at sundown, so we are not actually late," Klaus mentions.

It takes everything within Olaf to calm his anger. He balls his fist. "That curious," Olaf speaks through gritted teeth, "someone just referred to you as the late ones. Maybe they were talking about your parents."

This causes all of the orphans to hitch their breaths. Violet and Klaus look at each other, and Jeremy looks to Y/N. But Y/N remains glaring at the evil man, unwilling to let him see her hurt.

Olaf grins, then it falters for a moment, sensing Y/N's glare, but he quickly regains his composure, "You will put on these very expensive running shoes," he throws the actually very cheap looking shoes at the orphans. "And take this luminous paint-luminous is a word I invented for things that glow in the dark."

"We know what luminous means," Jeremy interrupts him.

"And you will drag this bucket of paint around and around until you have made a luminous circle on the ground," he ignores the boy. Olaf holds the can of paint out, which Violet eventually took.

"That's it?" Vice Principal Nero asks, expecting more.

"Yes, the orphans will run around and around and around to exercise their mother and father-less legs," Olaf grins more, proud at himself for the sly comments.

Y/N is the one to ball her fist now. Klaus notices, and gently places his hand on the small of her back, hoping it will calm her down. They both jump, being focused on each other, when Olaf blows his shrill whistle again, signaling for them to start.

"What are we doing?" Violet asks, dumbfounded that they are forced to run.

"Uh, running in circles," Jeremy sighs as they start.

"But how does this help Count Olaf steal our fortune?" Y/N thinks.

"I don't know," Jeremy replies.

"Something else has to happen, there's no way he'll make us run in circles all night," Klaus pants.

The nights go by like this, leaving the orphans painfully exhausted and barely able to focus or even stay awake in their classes. Each day their exhaustion grows, as well as their curiosity as to what running has to do with Count Olaf getting their fortunes.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Klaus sits at his desk in class, his head propped up on his hand. The boys' eyes begin to slowly close.

Y/N, sitting beside him, gently nudges him, "Klaus, stay awake."

"I know," he sighs, but remains with his eyes closed.

Y/N nudges him again, "Come on Klaus."

"I'm awake!" Klaus scowls, snapping at her.

Y/N jumps slightly, her eyes slightly wide. Klaus has never snapped at her like this. Her heart sinks to her chest as her eyes fall to look at the floor.

Klaus bites the inside of his right cheek and looks to the floor as well, "Sorry," he whispers.

The girl glances at him and then scoots her chair away from him slightly, hoping to just give him some space.

Klaus sighs and puts his head down, feeling terrible the rest of class. Shortly after the incident, it's time for lunch.

Before Y/N can leave, Klaus immediately stops her, "Y/N, I'm really sorry about earlier," he apologizes.

The girls eyes don't leave the floor, but her head gives a slight nod. Klaus's heart hurts as she won't look at him.

"I shouldn't have snapped at you."

"Hey what's wrong?" Jeremy walks over.

"Nothing..." Y/N looks up at her brother, then to her boyfriend, "Klaus is just a little tired..."

"Are you sure that's it?" Jeremy looks to the boy now.

"He just....was imitating Count Olaf for a second but I'm too tired to laugh," Y/N lies.

"If you say so," Jeremy narrows his eyes slightly. "Come on, we could take a nap right now.

"Right, yes. I just-" Y/N hesitates for a moment, then gently places a kiss on Klaus's cheek before leaving with her brother.

"So what really happened?" Jeremy asks, glancing back at Klaus as they walk away.

"It's not a big deal, Jeremy. Like I said, he's just tired and snapped a little. He scowled at me is all," Y/N sighs.

"There's no reason for that, we're all tired," her brother crosses his arms.

"It's fine. He apologized. I was just trying to get him to stay awake in class," Y/N explains.

"Still," Jeremy shakes his head, "if he does it again, I'm talking with him."

"There will be no need."
