We Must Get Out

Chapter 5: Her Riddle

Bella walked in crying. They knew what had happened. "She's dead!" She said shakily. "Because of me!" She was crying and now Mia was crying because of the loss of her sister. The whole mood in the group was really low, they knew Leila wouldn't be the only person that they love that would die. The outside of Cryptious' museum changed, there was a new exhibit. It was an Egyptian exhibit. They noticed this outside and went inside of it to see if there was anything that could be useful to them. It was now 10:17 and they were searching around everywhere for something. They moved a couch over and found that under it was a trap door. They opened it and it took them to Ancient Giza. They saw a giant sphinx made out of stone. It was 2 miles tall, and its base was about 2650 feet. There were 3 pyramids. One on the left of it, one on the right of it, and one behind it. Evan walked up to it and steps appeared in the air as he would go forward. "Guys! Look!" They led up to the mouth of the sphinx. All of them followed up the steps, but when they got into the mouth of the sphinx, the steps disappeared. They walked down the steps in the sphinx. They went into a room and they were all stuck in it. The walls were closing in and a soft soothing voice spoke to them. "You must find a way out of the room in 45 minutes before the walls close in and you are all crushed to death." The voice said. They all were panicking and Ella accidentally hit a button that was hidden on the wall. A card came out of the floor on a pedestal. You all need to get along with each other if you want to get out of the room, use the time you have to work things out. If you don't figure things out before 45 minutes the wall will crush you to death. The exit will appear when you resolve things between you guys. That is the meaning of the sphinx, to reunite and connect. "So Mia, Evan. You guys are the only thing keeping us in this room. You need to resolve things between you so that we don't all turn into pancakes." Ella said. "No, I don't want to." Evan said. The walls moved in. They all screamed. "Okay, Evan I'm sorry. I was just mad that Max voted me in. I didn't know he had kids." Mia said. "It's okay but if we get out of here, then you have to tell his girlfriend and his kid what happened." Evan said. "Okay, I will." Mia said. They all got teleported out of the sphinx and the sphinx started to move. It was now real. It had the tail of a serpent, the body of a lion and woman, the head of a woman, and the wings of an eagle. It was big and walking towards them. "Run! Go into the right pyramid!" Bella yelled. "Okay!" Nene yelled. She ran towards the left pyramid. "Nene, that's the left pyramid!" Bella yelled. She was already in the left one though. "Dang it! Nenes in the other pyramid, we need to find her." Jobe said. "We can't go outside because the stupid sphinx is out there! It's gonna squish us!" Mia said. "There was a pyramid behind the Sphinx. There might be something that leads to that, and then there might be an entrance to the other one." Ella said. They went down to the end of the pyramid and there was a place to put a hand. No one's hand would do anything. They knew they probably had to find a hand. They were feeling on the bricks and felt that one was loose. They pulled it out and there indeed was a hand behind it. They put the hand into the hand mark and a trapdoor opened. They went into it and it led them into the middle pyramid. They walked into the middle and Nene was in the pyramid. "Guys!" Nene yelled. "Nene!" Bella said. "Wait. That's not nene. She would never say "guys" that's so millennial, she says, ''y'all." Jobe said. "Nene is with me!" The fake nene said. She turned into cockroaches and then they went to the middle of the pyramid and found that Nene was tied up with a mouth gag. A giant lion claw broke through the bricks. And the sphinx peaked her head through. "You will start the final death challenge!" She said. "Vote in 2 to solve my deathly riddle!" She said again. "Wait, we didn't find the death challenge key or door?" Jobe said. "That trapdoor you went through was the door! It was just unlocked." The Sphinx said. "You have 2 minutes to vote or else you all die!" She said again. She walked away, the ground shaking with each step she took. There was a voting pile on the floor with cards on a table with the name of each person who was there. They all voted. "The 2 people voted into the death challenge are, Jobe and Ava." Athena said. Ava and Jobe looked at each other, knowing that one of them would die. "Are you mortals ready!" The Sphinx said. "Yes." Jobe and Ava said. She put her finger through the hole in the pyramid and they got on top of it. "Good luck guys." Bella said. They were in front of the Sphinx and the Sphinx said, "Solve my riddle or die. If both of you don't solve it, you will die!" "I know the answer to her riddle, just say what I say."Jobe said."What goes on four feet in the morning, two feet at noon, and three feet in the evening?" She said. "A person." Jobe said. The sphinx looked surprised. "A person!" Ava said. "No! No! No one has ever solved my riddle! How did you mortals solve it!" The Sphinx said. Her skin started cracking. "But thank you, I am finally free. I can finally be at rest. AHH!" She said again. She exploded and what was left behind was the 4th power stone. They used the power stone to teleport to the others. They now had hope for the rest of the night. What if they didn't need to die for every power stone? What if they could cheat the system and the rest of them could survive?
