It's been three days since I last met with Mister Na Mil, and I was starting to get concerned about my stall. Not that I cared but if Father found out I let someone else snatch it right underneath my nose, well, let's just say it won't be very pretty.
After breakfast, I went down to the lobby and tried to call him, listening to the consecutive rings for a good five minutes before I caught on that he wouldn't be picking up today. I sighed as I propped the phone back up. I slumped against the wall, staring out the hotel's entrance doors. The weather seemed quite lovely today. Maybe I'd will myself to go outside and read or write to Keon Hee instead of pace my room aimlessly.
I chuckled to myself as I thought of Keon Hee. He had been so stern about me writing to him each week I was gone. He even climbed into my bed in the middle of the night before I left and made me pinky promise that I'd remember. He said if I didn't, he might as well come himself to see how I was doing, and knowing him, he actually would.
A light breeze kissed my face as the revolving doors spun to enter new guests, Hwan Woong pushing their luggage trolly behind them. He caught my eye and waved at me.
"Great weather today, Seo Ho! You should go for a walk, get some fresh air!" he called out.
I pushed myself off the wall and replied, "You read my mind!"
He laughed, flicking his hand in my direction before continuing to trail behind the guests. I glanced at Dong Ju, who sat at the lobby desk, and saw the longing in his eyes to get out as well. Sometimes I felt bad for the twins as they sat there, day in and day out, looking bored out of their minds yet always putting the friendliest smiles on when someone made their way over - even Dong Myeong.
"Would you like to join me?" I asked Dong Ju, walking up to the desk.
He sighed exasperatedly with a tired smile. "I would love to, but there's a tad bit more work today," he began as he straightened a stack of papers. He looked back up at me, "but maybe next time?"
"Of course," I smiled to which he returned.
I quickly jogged upstairs, grabbed the tent bookstore owner's book and went outside. The full breeze that greeted my face once I stepped outside was incredibly refreshing. It was a change from my room that began to feel stuffy I didn't know I needed until now.
I turned left and strolled into the hotel's gardens, seeking out a patch of sunflowers that were in direct view of my room's window. I carefully tiptoed on the flat rock path to the stone bench that sat in the middle of the flowers. I crossed my legs as to not crush any of them before opening the book to where I had left off and was absorbed into the pictures and science of stars and galaxies.
A lot of people in Utharia regarded science as a bunch of bogus, but I thought it was just fascinating. It amazed me how there was so much behind the scenes of things we deem so simple and natural, and they're happening right in front of our eyes - you just have to look closely to notice.
Towards the end of my reading, I overheard the conversation of a couple in the distance.
"What do you do?"
"I read."
"Read?"
I chuckled at the incredulous tone of the male, looking up to see who this couple was, however, I noticed that they were too far off in the gardens for me to be able to actually hear them.
"Okay, what about?"
"Science."
"Oh, oh, and history."
