I watched those eyes, those beady eyes. And they watched me. We stared into each other, and I got to look at the features of the creature. Skinny, big, dark in color. The size of a Great Dane, maybe even a small bear. A really, really small bear. It made a low growl, then did something. It-it smiled.
A wide,
wide,
wide
smile. And then it ran off, before I could scream. That thing ran like a cheetah. No, faster. Like a racecar at top speed, but soundless. I looked at Willow, who was actually slightly snoring, and who couldn't possibly have seen that thing. My heart was beating against my chest, pounding like a drum. I couldn't even shriek if I wanted to. My voice was caught in my throat, being lumped down by my fear and shock.
"Wi-Wi-Willow...." I stammered. "Willow, I s-saw the thing. Wake up, it's important."
"WHRMPH," she protested. "I'm uUUUupppppp." I couldn't help but smile affectionately at this. She was so cute, and I hadn't even seen this side of her. It only makes me love you more, I thought.
"WhAt was SO important you had to wake me up?" She was grumpy. Then again, wouldn't anyone be at this point? Maybe my face was doing something, because her face sobered, and she said, "Ivory? Are you okay?" The words poured out of me before I could stop them.
"I-I saw the thing in the woods. It came up to the window sorta, and I stared into it, and then it smiled, like so wide, so, so wide, and then it ran off really fast, and I didn't even hear it running off, and I think it's stalking us now, and-"
"Ivory, come here," Willow tole me. I realized I was crying. Tears poured out of me like the words did. "Come here, it'll be okay, it's okay." Willow stroked my hair and dried my tears. "Lay down," she instructed. And I did, my head in her lap, as she tentatively caressed me and wiped away the tears.
"Willow, I-"
"Shh. Tell me in the morning. Go to sleep, you need rest. Maybe you dreamed it." I was suddenly too tired to argue. Maybe I did dream it, I thought. Maybe I did? But I'm glad that this isn't a dream.
