We woke up to a beautiful sunrise. Well. I woke up. Willow was stretching, and the sun seemed to highlight every amazing feature on her. Her beautiful face, her amazing hair, even in the apocalypse she was the most beautiful girl in the world.
I must have been staring, because she looked at me, smiled, and said, "Good morning, Ivory." Her voice wobbled a bit; yesterday was terrifying, and I don't blame her for seeming scared.
"Good morning," I responded, a small smile creeping onto my face. "Did you sleep well?" She didn't answer for a moment. I took it as a no, and to be honest, neither did I.
"Not really," she finally answered. I nodded. "So...today, what are we going to do?"
"I'm not sure...maybe we could explore a bit? Get to know the area," I offered. It seemed peaceful, even if it was dangerous. Spending the day with Willow...it was the only good that could happen in this world.
"That's a good idea," Willow smiled at me. This made me feel what little comfort I could about yesterday. I smiled back, the warm feeling of love for Willow taking over me.
"Alright! Where should we start?"
"Maybe...around the mall we went to? We could find the main...whatever it is, and some clues to stopping it," she suggested.
"That's a great idea." You're so smart, I could never say. I'm sorry about all of this, and I'm here, I'll always be here.
"Thanks," she grinned slightly, her mood improving. "Should we go now? Although, I don't think you had any breakfast yet." I nodded at this, grabbing a random thing of food that was on the ground.
"This'll do for now. Let's go." I checked the can's label. Baked Beans. I was pretty sure Willow was trying not to laugh at me, and I myself felt slightly embarrassed. But also, slightly amused.
"If you say so, Ivory," she chuckled teasingly, and I blushed.
"Y-yep. Let's go now." I started walking towards the mall, dying a little inside. Although I was smiling, because it was a little funny. A small ember of hope sparked up inside me. Maybe we could survive this together.
We walked towards the mall as quietly as we could, not saying any words when we entered the town. It was occasionally terrifying, and I had no idea why I suggested this, until I saw Willow's face as we entered the mall.
She smiled, excited that we were getting our chance to possibly escape, or, at the very least, find out how and what was going on. I decided that, yes, this was worth it, worth the danger. We weren't going to possibly die without a fight.
But I'll never let Willow die. Ever. That's a plan and a promise.
