A glimpse of hope

"Do you guys hear all of that noise? That's the noise of a happy island!" As captain Shinki said those words, he raised his wooden mug full of rum. He had a rather beaming look on his smile, but that smile of happiness quickly fell as he set his mug onto a table near him.

"Dressrosa is now being ruled by the Donquixote family." We all averted his gaze, imagining the horrible danger the country of Dressrosa could have been enduring in the past. "Donquixote Doflamingo is now the king of this island. I have no knowledge on how this island came to be, but I do know that a warlord such as Doflamingo would hide something incredibly sorrowful in this country. And that is one of the reasons why we came to this island. We are going to fix Dressrosa and take down Doflamingo!!" Everybody jumped up from their thoughts. We all shot him with a dreadful look, signaling him to reconsider his plan, but all captain Shinki did... was stare at me.

I glared at him with disbelief.

I can't make the decisions for you, captain!

I tried to hide myself in my hair, acting as if I were only an inanimate object that people would only glance at for a few seconds.

I was hoping that captain Shinki would stop staring at me, but he didn't. He was waiting for me to say something meaningful.

He slightly tilted his head, still staring at me with a solemn face.

"C'mon (Y/n), what do you say?"

I stared at him while slightly pushing my hair away from my face, realizing that... this was my captain. My captain can make anything possible. It's kind of crazy, but I did think that we were ready to head for a greater challenge.

I lifted my head up with total confidence, "Let's listen to captain Shinki! With our determination and his strength, anything can be possible! Let's save Dressrosa and defeat that bastard Doflamingo!!" Everybody cheered, grabbing their mugs with jubilant smiles. My captain gazed at me, a bit flabbergasted with my response, but he smiled at me.

  It was a beautiful smile.

I didn't notice it but I was also smiling. Even if we didn't have a plan, or a strong crew... I thought we could do it.

As we were cheering and hugging each other, showing confidence and determination, we heard a loud boom from the right side of our ship.

We all stopped, dropped our mugs, and ran upstairs.

When we emerged from the stairs, we all saw ships surrounding us.

"EVERYBODY, GET TO YOUR POSITIONS NO-"

It happened right before our eyes.

Our captains head was blasted off with a cannon ball, leaving only his body.

Our captain could have easily evaded that, but because of all of the alcohol and confusion, he was as vulnerable as we were.

  We were all in awe.

As we stood there in utter fear and despair, the ships around us continued to bombard our ship.

All we could do was stand. Stand still, hoping for a miracle.

After the sudden attack, the ones left alive were kept alive for torture. The ones attacking us knew that we wouldn't last long.

It's been over five days now.

Most of my crew members died from simply killing themselves.

  I just waited.

I was just waiting... for nothing...

I could no longer express my emotions. I could no longer encourage my crew to continue living.

I only thought about my captain and his last smile.

I thought about my words, too. Maybe if I scolded captain Shinki about how absurd it was to defeat a warlord, he might have turned the ship... no, he would never listen to me if I said something he didn't want to hear.

I was now the only one on our recked ship.

I was alone... just like I was from the beginning.

  Alone...
