Jaino popped some bottle of champagne for us when we settled just a few kilometers away from the port we have been to earlier. It was just a fine celebration for us to gather here and appreciate what we are seeing right now.
"So, I have a question, like the same question I asked people I've toured around," Jaino started. "Why did you choose to cruise on the Côte d'Azur?"
Nagkatinginan pa kaming dalawa ni Cholo, pero siya naman agad ang tinuro ko dahil siya naman ang may pasimuno kung bakit nandito kami ngayon.
"I've let him decide where we should go, so I guess Cholo would answer that one," sagot ko na may kasamang ngiti sa labi.
Napakamot naman siya sa ulo niya. "Well, yeah, it's true that I was the one who choose this place to go is because we have been driving towards cities, flying to other countries and all those experiences were a good thing for us to remember, but this... sailing on the Mediterranean Sea is a whole lot of new experience. And even though it is expensive, we still went for it, and now here we go!"
"I see," Jaino said, nodding his head. "But how did you discover the French Riviera?"
"He was just searching on google and watching some travel vlogs," sagot ko naman. "That's what he does when he was still looking for a place to go."
"That's fantastic," Jaino said. "But there are a lot of things that haven't been seen online or anywhere, you'll see and experience them with yourself. Believe in me. I think you picked the right place to see new things."
And then Cholo looked at me with a wide smile on his face. It was genuine and I know, if Synestine was here, he would be doing this with her. I know that because one time he told me that if she was alive, as she loves traveling, it would be the greatest dream for them to do. And now, he's living her dream and it's coming true. Even though Synestine wasn't here, I feel she was happy for him because he's making it all come true. And I am witness to his journey.
Siniko naman ako ni Cholo kaya bumalik ako sa ulirat ako. "Ano 'yon?" tanong ko.
"Ano 'yang iniisip mo, ha?"
I scrunched my face. "Wala? Assumero ka naman?"
"Ito naman. Nagtatanong lang."
"E, paano ba naman kasi? Parang may ibang pahiwatig pa 'yang tanong mo."
"Sus! Ikaw lang ata nag-iisip niyan, e."
Hindi ko na siya sinagot at sinukuan ko na siya. Inirapan ko siya saka ko kinuha iyong bote ng champagne at magsasalin sana ako sa baso ko nang hablutin niya iyon bago ko pa man magawang salinan muli.
"Ang epal naman," komento ko.
Inubos ko na sa isang inuman ang natira sa baso ko. Siya naman itong lumapit sa akin para salinan na ako pero hindi ko na siya pinapansin. Tumungo na lamang ako sa kwarto ko upang magpalit ng damit na pang-swimming.
