After weeks of zero texts
We spoke for about ten minutes before entering the exam hall
And every word we uttered seemed forced.

A path is widening in between our friendship,
And no one is doing anything about it.

We often joked true friends only speak once a month.
That joke did not age well,
Because it is unlikely
I will be seeing much of you this year.

Past the point, I
Hold on to what is not meant to be
Past the point, I
Try to make you appreciate me.
Just as, You
Have realized
We want different things
Out of life.

When we were teenagers,
Our differences in career aspirations, faith and lifestyle never mattered.
Just 20 and counting,
Everything is all changed now
Probably we were keeping each other down.

Do I blame time?
Do I blame coming of age reality?
Or our individual adulting crisis.

Should I scold myself?
I could have called enough.
Because I know it takes intentionality
To make friendship work.

Life as a young adult,
Somedays soft,
Other moments rough.
Maybe this is not the end of our chapter together,
Maybe this is the scene you leave my story for good.
Maybe this is another test,
To see how much we will miss each other.
Maybe this is time off,
To do some more growing up.
Four 'Maybe's'
Not one clear.

Wish we could just converse it out,
Like we analyze NBA matches, premier league games, or cryptocurrency dips.
But we are Guys,
We talk about everything,
Except feelings.
