MEGAN NICHOLS FELT NUMB

MEGAN NICHOLS FELT NUMB. It was simplest way to put how she was feeling. Numb. She had lost the one person who had been there for her because of his own ego. She had lost her sister, because she had been MIA and been hanging out with the people she hated most, and she couldn't bring herself to get out of bed to see Robby. Even if it was all she wanted to do.

Some days, Megan wished she could be in Robby's spot. Not only would it ease the boy's pain he had been feeling, but it would also allow her not to be going through the things that she had been going through.

The days after the laser tag fight consisted of Megan doing three simple things: (1) Taking care of her mother and brother, (2) job hunting, and (3) debating whether or not she should get her ass out of bed and move on with her life. Those three things had been hard for Megan, because as much as she wanted to get out of the house and go live on with her life, somehow, she couldn't. She couldn't even bare it.

However, as much as being in the house was better than being out in the world, it also wasn't. Megan Nichols had still been a Nichols, she had still been Tory's sister. That broke her, because every time Tory walked into that apartment, Megan fought every urge to not yell at the girl.

Megan truly didn't want to go anywhere, and she certainly didn't want to go to school. Megan couldn't bare to go, because as soon as the girl walked into that building, she would be completely and utterly alone. Eli had been her only friend she could talk to and Moon had just been there for the girl to sit with at lunch.

Megan decided against going to school that day, and rather, she finally found it in her to go visit Robby.

"Uh, I'm here to see Robby Keene." Megan told the lady at the reception desk, which just so happened to be the same lady from the day previous.

"Didn't I tell you, you needed to call before visiting an inmate?" the lady asked.

Megan let out a sigh, "Yes, but please let me see him. He's the only person who hasn't made my life a living hell. Please."

The lady watched the pleading girl intently. She could see Megan's determination, and she admired that. "Have a seat, we'll let you know when he's available."

Megan smiled at the lady, "Thank you."

Megan sat in the Detention Center for what felt like forever before they finally let her see Robby, and this time, as much as it sucked it being under horrible circumstances, it was definitely less awkward.

"Megan." Robby smile beamed as he saw the girl waiting for him again.  Megan simply smiled at the boy. Anyone could tell something had been bothering her, from the way she fiddled with her fingers to her unkept hair, something had been bothering her. "Are you okay?"
