Beyoncé Giselle KnowlesBeyoncé had never invited anyone over to her house—ever. She never exactly had a reason to, she never had any real friends.
But here she was unlocking the front door of her house for Onika.
The shorter girl stood behind Beyoncé nervously; this was an impulse decision. She was nervous—she was entering Beyonces house after the fiasco at the country club. She texted her mother and told her she was leaving early, and she was fine with it. But she asked Onika if she was alright.
Onika didn't answer.
Beyoncé opened her door with a casual hum before stepping in and beginning to take off her boots. Onika watched her and the blonde peered up at her, "You should take your shoes off, my grandmas pretty serious about her carpets." She mumbled and Onika immediately started undoing the back of her sandles.
Once she had finally gotten them off she saw Beyoncé beginning to walk away, she got a glimpse of her mismatched socks and smiled a bit. It was so her.
"Are your parents home?" Onika asked and Beyoncé turned to her, "I only live with my mom and grandma." She said walking backwards down the hallway. "My moms probably at work—my grandma's probably on the back porch reading." Beyoncé stated.
Onika was paying more attention to the hallway they were walking down, so many pictures adorned her eyes. A lot were certificates, and family photos with the occasional art piece. But there was one that really caught Onikas eye.
She stopped walking, and stared at the family photo.
It was an older woman, with a young looking woman smiling with two children. Onika couldn't tell which one was the girl or the boy or maybe 2 girls and 2 boys. She couldn't tell them apart. they looked like twins. They both had dark brown curly brown hair and they were both laughing.
They had other pictures, same clothes and everything. They were obviously all on the same day. The twins kept making funny faces or sticking their tongues out while the older woman looked annoyed.
Onikas favorite was the one where they're all smiling and laughing.
"Are these your little siblings?" Onika asked and Beyoncé was already half way up the stairs, she turned and looked down to see Onika standing and looking up at something.
She jogged back near her and looked up herself, and laughed shaking her head.
"No, that's my brother and I with my mom and grandmother." Beyoncé stated and Onika almost got whiplash. She turned to Beyoncé with surprise, and then back at the photo repeatedly.
"We're twins. I'm technically older. This photo was at my moms birthday. We went to this amusement park, this was taken in the hotel lobby we were staying in. Him and I had ate so much chocolate we couldn't stand still." Beyoncé explained and Onika couldn't stop staring.
That was her?
She had blonde curly hair now, and obviously grew a few feet. Onika was still surprised.
As she looked into those hazel eyes now, she could see a speckle of something—something Onika didn't like.
Sadness.
She shook her head and smiled again, it was gone now. Was Onika just seeing things?
"Let's go up to my room." Beyoncé stated and Onika followed her up the stairs. She loved this home already—because it felt like a home. So many family photos—you could tell the walls of the house had seen so much yet still managed to stand beautifully with its slightly cracked paint covered with photos that had so much damn love in them.
