Oscar POV

"I really don't care. All houses are fine." I tried to reason with the black-haired girl next to me. She squinted her eyes at me, letting them run over me. "Really? You are a Black? Don't you want to be in the best house?"

I shurgged one shoulder, trying to keep up with the pace of the other pupils when hurdling after the half-giant Hagrid.

Still, I looked over my shoulder at her and asked: "What is the best house?"

"Gryffindor of course." The girl told me, neglecting the obvious duh she really had wanted to say and rolled her eyes at me.

"My father and sister and also my step-brother have been in Gryffindor." I answered her when I felt tiny teeth bite my left index finger. I partly knew it was illegal to bring a Bowtruckle to Hogwarts, but Cricket was my friend and I couldn't leave him at home. So, now he was with me and I obviously had to keep him a secret from everyone, which wasn't easy with him gnawing on my fingers. I knew he wanted to see Hogwarts, but I could not let him out, not yet at least.

"But my mum was in Hufflepuff and my aunts as well and—"

I was interrupted by an elder witch—McGonagall— greeting us. "Good evening first years. You will just have to wait for a few more minutes before we are ready for you. You then can join your classmates. But before you can take your seats you must be sorted into your houses. There are Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw and Slytherin. While you're here your house will be like your family. Your triumphs will earn you points and for rule breaking will lose points. At the end of the year the house with the most points will be rewarded the house cup." Around me I heard some people mumbling, snickering and asking around what houses other people hoped to be sorted into. Within the blink of an eye a big door opened behind McGonagall and a student came outside and told her that they were ready. She commanded us to follow her through the door which we quickly did. Shuffling and waddling on the ground was soon accompanied by loud gasps and expressions of surprise and admiration.

There were four large tables, two on the one side of the corridor and two on the other side and at the very front there was a U-shaped table lifted slightly—the teacher's table.

We walked to the very front fo the hall, bliss and anticipation spreading throughout my whole body. Cricket squeezed my finger and I tapped his tiny hand. Not now.

McGonagall who had welcomed us stood next to chair and said: "When I call your name you will come forth, I will place the sorting hat on your head and you will be sorted into your houses."

She called all sorts of names and I watched all of the pupils being sorted with great interest. Each one of them could be my housemate and they all would definitely be my classmates.

"Oscar Black." My eyes went wide, I quickly tabbed Cricket on the head, pulled my hand out of my pocket and headed for the chair. McGonagall flashed me a big grin, dipping her chin at me. I had a feeling that she saw my father in me—we after all looked nearly identical.

I smiled back at her and confidently took a seat as I was not nervous at all. What could possibly happen? There was nothing that could go wrong. Mum had assured me that it did not at all matter which house I would get sorted into—Gryffindor, Slytherin, Hufflepuff or Ravenclaw. And dad has basically told me the same.

"Ahaaa. Oscar Regulus Black, I was waiting for you. For another brilliant child of the Black family. Well, well. You are also so very difficult. A smart young wizard. Talented and witty. Quite loyal and kind at heart. You are a lot like your sister, aren't you?"

Smiling cheekily, I dipped my chin. "She was in Gryffindor....a great witch I do remember. So were your father and mother. Talented and Smart. I might think you would also fit into Gryffindor, but.....it rather be—" he paused and now I got nervous. What would it be? I did not care, but I wanted to know. I tabbed my fingers on my thighs, my heart speeding up.

"Hufflepuff!"

A big grin broke out on my face when I jumped up from the chair. My grin mirrored Minnie's—whoops, McGonagall's. Loud clapping and cheering erupted when I made my way over to our house table, taking a seat between a girl and a boy.

I knew mum was going to cry when I told her that I got sorted into the same house as her and I....I was so proud and happy. I was in the same house as mum.

The smile did not fade when I started digging into the meal and the house ghosts appeared over our heads. Engaging into the conversations around me I also snuggled a few bits of food into my pocket for Cricket. This was going to be amazing, I knew it.
