Being prepared for something your entire life doesn't guarantee how you'll react when the time comes. For all spellcasters leaving home to enter Monzara, Institute Of The Arcane is no easy feat. It brings you total euphoria alongside total crushing sadness.
This was no different for Yeonjun. His mother messed with his hair & outfit. He needed to look absolutely perfect. You see, Yeonjun' mother belonged to House Oceania during her time at Monzara. As did nearly all of the women of his family. With a few mixed in combinations of House Lycan & House Wing regardless of the gender. This also didn't even include the kinds of spellcasters from his paternal side.
His mother clearly was nervous for his sorting. "연준이 형 집중해야 돼요. 우리는 어떤 실수도 용납할 수 없습니다. 알겠어요?" (You need to keep your focus, Yeonjun. We can't afford any mistakes. Okay ?) Yeonjun just nodded. Soon enough a car arrived to drive them to Monzara. Nervous wasn't even a word Yeonjun could describe for how he was currently feeling. They managed to meet up with what was know as a Sorter. They were spellcasters whose only magical abilities was determining where to place Monzara' students. Kind of like a humanoid android calculating what it needs to before sorting.
Yeonjun took his seat across from the sorter. He was alone now. His mother waited outside as to not influence his sorting test. "I detect nervousness. Are you nervous, Choi Yeonjun ?" It was creepy how accurate the sorter was, but there was no use in lying. "I am. How exactly will you conduct this test ?"
The sorter gave a small smile, "저는 간단히 여러분에게 손가락을 찌르고 피 한 방울이 여러분 앞에 있는 그릇의 물에 닿게 해달라고 부탁할 것입니다. 걱정할 필요 없어요." (I will simply ask you to prick your finger & let a drop of blood touch the water in the bowl before you. No need to worry.) Soon enough that time came. Yeonjun pricked his finger, letting a single drop of blood enter the bowl of water. The sorter grinned wide as he quickly to tell Yeonjun' results.
"Congratulations, Mr. Choi. House Oceania will welcome you." Yeonjun felt absolute relief wash over him. He was going to make his mother proud after all. He said a rushed thank you to the sorter before heading out to tell his mother the news. "Well ? Which house were you placed ?" , his mother asked already nervous he placed elsewhere.
"Oceania. I was placed in Oceania." His mother looked at him like she'd never been prouder. This was one of the few times Yeonjun knew what his mother was feeling. You're probably wonder why Yeonjun' father is not present in this huge milestone of his life ? Sadly his father is being held in the Monzara Penitentiary for the Magically Troubled. His father attempted to do a ritual to rid himself & Yeonjun of magic, but it backfired. The ritual was stopped by his mother. However, this very ritual nearly killed Yeonjun as a child. Because it would take all of his magical abilities & energy from his body. Essentially leaving him numb, as well as devoid of individuality. Forcefully losing your magic was never an unweighted choice.
"연준 씨 먼저 하세요. 여기까지입니다." (You go ahead, Yeonjun. This is as far as I take you.) Yeonjun made his way to the meeting post where other students awaited the start of the entry ceremony. His mother left fully in belief he was in the best hands at the school.
Upon settling into the crowd he felt nauseous. Almost like something was off. Did this mean anything ?
