Marleen

'Where are you?'

'I'm checking the perimeter why? Are you okay?'

'Yeah we just need to talk
'About?'

'Kinsley' I mindlinked back.

'Why is she okay? She's not hurt is she?'

'No'

'Then why do we need to talk about her?'

'Just finish what you're doing and come home'

I leaned back against the kitchen chair, feeling the familiar weight of guilt settle in. With a sigh, I put up my mental wall again, blocking out the emotions that threatened to spill over. I hate having to keep lying to my own daughter. She's a werewolf, and she deserves to know about her heritage. To distract myself, I pulled out my phone and started playing Angry Birds. That game was ridiculously addictive, and for a few minutes, it worked.

Then, I heard the familiar sound of the sliding glass door open, and my heart skipped a beat. My mate walked in, and even after all these years—even at forty-three—he was still impossibly handsome. His presence always brought a sense of comfort, even when things were tough. His dark hair, peppered with a bit of silver now, was tousled from the afternoon wind. His strong jawline and the familiar glint in his eyes hadn't changed a bit.

"Why do we need to talk about Kinsley?"

"Because it's time to tell her."

"No, it is not!" He slightly raised his voice at me but I'm not backing down this time!

"Yes, it is! She could've already found her mate by now and not even know it!" I ran my hands through my hair as frustration began to boil over but I still kept my cool. "I can't—no, I won't hide it from her any longer. It's been eighteen years! I think she's strong enough to handle it by now."

He sighed and ran his hands through his hair.

"I know It's just if we tell her I don't want her to hate us."
"Oh, honey." I got up and sat in his lap holding him tight.

"She won't hate us knowing our daughter she will just be mad for a while."

He sighed in defeat.

"We will tell her tomorrow night."

I kissed his cheek and got the keys.

"Where are you going?"

"To go pick up our daughter up from school."

I walked outside and got into my car to get my love bug!

Kinsley

As I waited for my mom to pick me up from school, I heard giggling to my left. I glanced over and saw the group of orange-blonde girls, the typical bimbos, pointing and laughing at me like they had nothing better to do. Their whispers and snickers were loud enough to make sure I knew I was the target. I rolled my eyes, trying to ignore them.

"If you have a problem say it to my face!"

They just snickered and flipped their hair over their shoulders before strutting away, clearly pleased with themselves. I rolled my eyes and turned my attention to the parking lot. Finally, I spotted my mom's red car pulling in. She made her way over to me, and I opened the door sliding into the passenger seat. Once I buckled up, we were off.

"So how was your first day of school?" She asked.

"It was alright."

"Did you make any friends?"

"Yeah."

"What are they like?"

"Their cool I guess."

She nodded slowly and continued to look at me excitedly.

"What." I said.

There were a few moments of silence before my mom finally spoke up.

"Do you want Starbucks?" She asked randomly.

"Yes!"

My mom pulled over and searched for a nearby Starbucks. After a few moments of driving, we spotted one just around the corner. We pulled into the drive-thru, and my mom placed our order.

"Welcome to Starbucks, what can I get you today?" the barista greeted.

"Can I get a venti Java chip and a caramel iced coffee with whipped cream?" my mom asked.

"That'll be $19.50 at the first window."

We rolled up to the first window, where my mom handed over the payment. The barista handed us our drinks, and I took a sip of my Java chip —it was so good! We pulled out of the drive-thru and started heading home. I switched on the radio, humming along to the tunes until we pulled into our driveway. I opened the door grabbing my bag that was on the floor, and walked inside, feeling happy that my end of day was going well.

"Hey, Dad."

I said as I made my way upstairs to my room. I tossed my bag onto the bed and quickly changed into some comfy sweats and a tank top. Once I was settled, I sat at my desk and pulled out my homework, trying to focus despite the distractions of the day. It wasn't long before I got lost in the assignments, the quiet of my room giving me the space I needed to concentrate.

"Kinsley dinner is ready!"

I slid my chair back and made my way downstairs. When I got to the kitchen, I was greeted by the delicious smell of chicken pasta, salad, and garlic bread—my favorite! I filled my plate and sat down at the table, digging in.

"So how was your first day?" My Dad asked curiously.

"It was okay."

"Did any boys catch your eye?" He smirked at me and I grew instantly annoyed.

"Dad!" I whined

"What it was a question?"

"But still it's weird when you ask me."

"So you did find someone cute today,  like omg he's so cute right, Ashley." He said attempting to sound like me.

"I don't sound like that!"

I threw a garlic bread at his face and laughed as it hit him right on the nose. His expression shifted from surprise to irritation. He glared at me for a second, then smirked, clearly plotting his revenge. Without warning, he flung a handful of noodles at me, and they landed in my hair.

"My hair!" I yelled, trying to shake the noodles out.

"My hair!" he mocked me.

I grabbed the salad bowl and flung it toward him, watching as it landed on his shirt. He wasn't having it, though. He grabbed a piece of chicken, ready to launch it in my direction.

"Markus Charles Winston, if you don't put that chicken down right now!" My mom's voice boomed from the other room.

My dad looked at Mom, then at me and I could practically see the evil wheels turning in his eyes. A slow, mischievous smile spread across his face, and I immediately knew he was about to take this to a whole new level.
