Bill and Ford, Mentor and Student:

I observed something while researching all this. This connection may be a coincidence and the Gravity Falls team didn't plan this. But the similarity is too large to be an accident. This connection is the parallels between Bill and Sphere's relationship and Bill and Ford's relationship. It's almost identical. Minus Bill's evil plans and his insanity with Ford. (Though it's not too far-fetched to believe Sphere knew that Flatlanders would never change their ways and ruined people's lives for fun because creatures from the second dimension were beneath him).

Let's start by reminding ourselves what Bill and Sphere's relationship was like. We know for a fact that they had the exact same relationship as A Square and Sphere in the book Flatland (thanks to my piece of evidence in journal three). I'll mark the most important pieces with **.

Bill lived a miserable life chained down by society

Bill lived a miserable life chained down by society. He longed for a better life and world. Especially since he, unlike other shapes, noticed Flatland's cruelty. *Sphere, an otherworldly being, every 1000 years chooses a new pupil to teach and inspire.* Sphere notices how different Bill is from the rest of his peers. *So Sphere chooses to teach Bill otherworldly knowledge* about the third dimension and much more. *Bill eventually writes his own book about all he's discovered to share with his world.* But it's his book and learnings from Sphere that bring Bill's downfall and eventually ruin his life forever.

SOUND FAMILIAR?! WeLL, iT REALLY shOUld.

Ok

Ok. Hear me out. That story is nearly identical to what Bill and Ford's relationship is like. Bill at one point was just like Ford, and then Bill became just like Sphere. Take a look at Ford's writing in journal three.

"One more thing about me; I have a secret. ..., two years ago I experienced a miracle while napping in the forest and that has forever changed the way I think about the world and my place in it. I was contacted by a 'muse.' I know it sounds crazy, but a *a strange being from a higher plane took sympathy with my search for knowledge and amazingly chose me to be a receptacle for divine and otherworldly insight.*"

HMMm. Ford lived his life searching for more. He wasn't miserable like Bill was before meeting sphere but either way, they both wanted more than what life had to offer. Ford started writing all his findings in his journals, just like Bill did. I'll come back to the quote above, but check out what Ford said when explaining his relationship with Bill to Dipper in the last Mabelcorn.

"He told me he was a muse. That he chose one brilliant mind a century to inspire."

IT'S THE EXACT SAME

IT'S THE EXACT SAME.

Bill was approached by Sphere, 'a being from a higher plane,' because sphere 'choose one brilliant mind' once every thousand years to teach 'divine and otherworldly insight' to.

And what's the lie Bill tells Ford to gain his trust? That he was *a being from a higher plane* that *choose one brilliant mind* every century to teach *divine and otherworldly insight* to.

I literally can't even make this stuff up. It's rather insane to me that regardless of how many theorists have backed up the idea of Sphere and Bill meeting one another (and also missing the part in journal three), not a single one has ever made the comparison of this.

Bill's world and perspective of that world was changed forever by Sphere. Ford's world and perspective of that world was changed forever by Bill. Bill was taught the secrets of the universe by a being from a higher plane. Ford was taught the secrets of the universe by Bill, a being from a higher plane. The teachings from Sphere brought Bill to his downfall and eventually his insanity. The teachings from Bill brought Ford to his downfall and eventually his insanity. There's no way in all hell this just all happens to be some coincidence, right? It all fits way too well. How can one look at the exact parallel and believe this theory can't be true??? God this hurts my brain.

Lets review:

- Bill is from the 2nd the second dimension,
a world filled with different kinds of shapes and lines known as Flatland.
- Bill as an equilateral triangle is part of one of the lowest classes in society and is thus mistreated. Flatland has a social hierarchy that has triangles at the bottom, squares next, then pentagons, etc. Circles are at the top of society. At the very bottom (not considered part of society) are irregular triangles and irregular shapes, and the women who are straight lines.
- Unlike equal-sided shapes (every child has one more side than his father), Irregular triangles over many generations of careful breeding can have equilateral triangle sons.
- Bill Cipher, an equilateral triangle, comes from a line of ancestors (the isosceles) who have been oppressed all their lives for generations. Those same ancestors main purpose in society is to eventually give birth to Bill.
- Because of laws in Flatland, Bill would have been forcefully taken away from his birth parents and then adopted by a new family. He'd be forbidden to ever know or meet his birth parents.
- It's likely when growing up, Bill's ego, personality, mental health, and ideology were affected by living in Flatland.
- Bill would have gone to school and then would have started to learn about the hard truth of flatland.
- Bill Cipher's voice is echoey and loud because of Flatland. This is how Flatlanders can discriminate against triangles without being able to see shapes.
- In the gravity falls story, Bill Cipher takes the place of A Square from the book Flatland. Anything that happened to A Square, happened to Bill. The next parts of this review will be explaining what happened.
- A stranger appears before Bill. He is a Sphere (named Sphere) from the 3rd dimension. He explains to Bill that there is a third dimension but Bill does not believe him
- As a way to convince Bill, Sphere takes him into the Mindscape for the first time to see three dimensions.
- The theory of Bill being from Flatland and all the other things mentioned are proven by cannon, never before seen evidence in Journal
- Sphere came to Flatland to attempt to convince the government of flatland there is a dimension.
- The pupil was Bill. Sphere taught Bill all about the third dimension and magic. Eventually, Bill became bored with the information he was given. He wanted to know more. Bill believed there were more dimensions to learn about but Sphere denied this. The two fought and Bill decided he'd discover the fourth dimension by himself without sphere. He left the guidance of Sphere after.
- Determined to document what he's seen, Bill starts writing a book about everything he saw in the third dimension but continued to reach roadblocks and becomes mentally unstable. Just like Ford Pines.
- Bill shares his book filled with his discovery to the people of Flatland but is arrested and put on trial.
- Bill shares his book filled with his discovery to the people of Flatland but is arrested and put on trial.
- Bill was sentenced to death but Bill defended himself with magic. Due to his unstable emotions, his magic started destroying all of Flatland. He escaped by entering the mindscape and lost his physical form. His magic killed everyone in Flatland. He then becomes insane.
- Years later, Bill tells Ford about his home dimension and how he hated it. He admits to destroying his dimension.
- The parallels between Sphere and Bill's relationship and Bill and Ford's relationship are nearly identical
