I Promise

When we got back to Harry's car, we were welcomed by another uneasy silence.

"Thank you," I finally say, breaking the silence, "for sticking up for me, I mean."

"Don't worry about it," he says, still tense from what just happened.

After a long silent ride home, we pull up to my driveway. I step out of the car. I feel bad, knowing that I am breaking his heart right now. I never would have thought in a million years, that I, Kimberly Spade, some unpopular dorky girl, would break Harry Styles' heart. It's not that I don't have feelings for him, believe me, I do, but not those kind of feelings. Not any more at least. Niall is the only one in my heart. Even when he breaks it, however many times he does, it will always belong to him. I was literally torn.

Harry drove away, leaving me standing there in my drive way with just my thoughts as company. I finally walk inside and head upstairs. I sink into my bed and just lay there, finally I drift to sleep. Too tired, too upset to change out of my clothes.

I wake up the next morning to the sound of the doorbell ringing. I walk downstairs and look out the peephole to see who it is. It's Niall, with a bouquet of roses in his hand. Did he really think that this would make me forgive him? Ok, so maybe it made me want to forgive him a little bit more, but that's not the point.

I open the door.

"Kimberly, please, you have to believe me that I am so sorry about what happened. She threw herself at me and kissed me. The only  reason why I didn't pull away was because I was so shocked at what happened and then I saw you there and I know how hurt that must have made you feel. Please accept my apology," he says, handing me the flowers.

I stand there trying to keep my poker face while thinking about what I should say. To be honest, I really wanted to forgive him, I really wanted to go back to the dates and the kisses. So, of course, I had to go with my gut feeling. Plus, I couldn't go any longer without a hug from Niall, his hugs are literally the best.

"Of course I forgive you," I say giving him a hug. He lets out a deep breath.

"Good, I was hoping you'd say that, because I got us something," he says.

He knelt to one knee and pulled out a box. What is he doing?! I'm only sixteen, I think to myself. Niall can see the shocked slash worried look on my face and let's out a laugh.

"Don't worry, they're not engagement rings," he said with a smile. "They're promise rings."

I smile, this had to be the sweetest thing ever. This gift was better than anything else he could ever have gotten me. This was better than the car he got me. This was a promise, that I hoped he would keep.

"Kimberly, I promise from this day on, I will not let anything like that will ever happen again. I promise that as long as you want me around, I'll be there. I can only hope that you promise me the same thing," he says.

"Of course I do," I squeal, letting him slip the ring into my finger.

It really was beautiful, and probably cost a fortune. It was 24k gold with tiny sapphires, rubies, emeralds, and diamonds dotting the edges and in the center it had the infinity sign with our names intertwined with it. I wrapped my arms around him giving him a huge kiss. This was more than I could have ever dreamed of happening. I mean every girl dreams of getting that special proposal to prom or homecoming or whatever, well, this was a million times better. We break the kiss when we hear a click. We turn to see the paparazzi. Ugh, they ruin everything. Niall looks about as irritated as I feel. I lead him inside away from the annoying paparazzi. He smiles and we share another kiss.

"It's gotta be you, K. You're the only one for me," says Niall. "I could never dream of being with another girl."

I smile. I was his and he was mine, how cliché.

We ended up watching Grease until the paparazzi left and Niall could go back home.

I walk Niall to the door. Before he walks out the door he turns around to face me.

"So, are you going to have to break up with Harry or something," he asks.

"What, no." I say quickly.

He looks at me a little bit worried.

"No, I mean, we were never dating. He just asked me out for a date and I said yes. Besides, the date wasn't very good, there was always an awkward silence in between us," I reassure Niall.

"Oh, okay," he responds, though he doesn't look convinced.

"Come on, Ni, I promise," I say holding up my new promise ring.

"Okay, okay, I believe you," he says, "I guess I'm getting as bad as you at hiding my thoughts."

"Hey," I say jokingly hitting him on the arm.

"I'm kidding, I'm kidding," he says holding up is arms. "I'll see you later, K"

"Bye!" I yell as he climbs into the car.

I watch him drive away before going back inside. I feel so much better now that I worked everything out with Niall. I walk upstairs with a jump in my step and head to bed.
