Piper Hollison, a girl in her early-teens looks down in horror at their pale blue phone to see a message. A message to inform her that her mother's last moments on earth had just ceased, and her brother was in a life-threatening situation, one were survival had a low chance of occurring.

Almost instantly tears started pouring down piper's cheek, stunned in shock they began to panic, seconds later Piper could be found running through the dark streets of night-time, suburban Manila. A loose jumper was hoisted around her shoulders as they continued to choke back tears at every step.

"How could this of happened?," they thought too themself "Why- why must've it been mum- and... Volcan. He has to be okay I couldn't- I can't live without him...!"

As they reached Manila hospital, breathing heavily in the door frame. They shouted to the man in the front desk, their jumper soaked.
"I NEED TO SEE VOLCAN HOLLISON!"

"First calm down mam, then follow me."

"Okay." They exclaimed. Taking a deep breath.

Volcan was sitting in a coma-like state lying upon one of the hospital beds, twitching ever so slightly.
"Thank god- he's alive." They thought

Piper had decided to never leave Volcan's side 'till he woke once more. Covering herself with her jumper to try and combat the dingy cold- that rested along the floor of the hospital.
"Why is it so fucking cold?" They asked Themself
"I knew I shouldn't of worn shorts!"

Oranges, golds and reds filled the sunrise and Piper's eyes the next morning, nearly blinding her. Sleep wasn't available last night for Piper as they struggled just to stay awake now, but they couldn't leave Volcan's side. They reached out to feel his hands- almost as cold as ice. One more tear left Piper's cheek before they were escorted back into the lobby.

10 minutes of waiting turned into 30, then into an hour then two then three then five. Exactly 5 hours and 27 minutes had passed since Volcan & Piper were in the same room, but fortunately for Volcan luck was on his side- as a doctor came with news for Piper both good and the bad kind.
"Hello miss Hollison, I am Dr. Railan, I have good news about your brother and I also have bad news..." He stated

"Start with the good please, doctor." They hoped that the good would outshine the bad.

"Your brother is okay, he survived the crash, but unfortunately because of said crash, his legs weren't able to recover, what I'm saying is he is going to be paralysed from the waist-down for the rest of his life."

These words hit her like a 12 tonne truck, no words could escape her lips, not one.

"He is able to leave the hospital after some treatment, we expect he can be discharged in 6 weeks from now- you are of course allowed to return before then to keep him company, this is all. Thank you for your time miss."

A devistated Piper glumly walked home later that evening.
"6 weeks, well I hope these weeks go by quick I can't bare with him being injured like this for much longer." When they reached home, they crawled into their bedroom pulling on some navy pyjamas with stars that are slightly too small for her, and cried herself too sleep.

Her dreams quickly transferred into nightmares about how the crash had occurred and what would happen if Volcan had passed too. These thoughts filled her mind for the next weeks, but they kept reassuring themself that everything is fine and that it would get better.

Not everything was fine but some things would get better.
