Y/N POV
Pete just got bit and me and Clem ran with him as we got separated from Nick.
Walkers pound on the cigarette truck that Pete, Clem and me are hiding in.
Pete: Well, they shouldn't be able to get through that. On the downside, we can't get through them.
I sit down and Clem soon follows and sits on my lap and Pete sits down as well, and he holds his injured right leg.
Pete: What're you lookin' at? Starin' ain't polite. Come on out and say it.
Y/N: How are you feeling old man?
Pete: Well, other than this bite, I'm just peachy. (looking at hacksaw) Hand me that there.
Clem: Cutting it off won't work.
Pete: Says who?
Clem starts to cry as she remembers Lee.
Clem: [crying] We knew someone who tried it.
Pete: Just because it didn't work once don't mean it can't work at all.
Clem buries her head into my chest and Pete picks up the saw.
Pete places the saw over his leg and grits his teeth. He can't bring himself to do it and throws the saw to the floor.
Pete: I'd bleed out like a stuck pig. What are you two gonna do, carry me outta here on your back? Hell. Just...just give me a minute.
Y/N: Try to get some rest. There's a lot of stuff in here. I'll try to find something to help.
Clem: (crying) What about me?
Y/N: You rest too. Your dog bite isn't even a day old yet and I want you at 100% ASAP.
Clem: (crying) Okay.
I get up and search the truck. I find a box with some cigarettes in it.
Pete: What's in there? Anything we can use?
I take out a pack of cigarettes and shows it to Pete.
Pete: Gimme one of those. Probably tastes like pine tar by now. But I'd smoke a dead coon's tail if you had one. Hand it here.
I hand Pete the pack.
Clem: Will you show me how to do it?
Pete: Hell no.
Y/N: Fuck no Clem!
Clem: Why not?
Pete: Ellen Breslin, San Bernadino boardin' school, June '63. One pack and I was hooked. Ah, that broad. Couldn't kiss worth a damn.
Y/N: Clementine you are not smoking that is final!
Clem: Fine!
Pete: Got a light?
Pete takes out a cigarette and I light it for him.
Pete: Well, that tastes about as bad as it smells.
Y/N: Now what?
Pete: We wait.
I sit next to Clem who is looking away from me in anger.
Y/N: Clem?
Clem looks at me.
Clem: You can't always tell me what I can or can't do!
Y/N: In this instance fucking right I can!
Clem looks away.
Y/N: Clem those things are bad for you and can give you cancer! My uncle smoked and he got cancer from it and he died and I don't want anything bad to happen to you. Understand?
Clem keeps looking away.
Y/N: Clem?
Clem turn to she and she has tears rolling down her eyes.
Clem: [crying] I'm sorry!
Y/N: Honey bun don't cry.
I pull her into a hug for a few seconds hen pull away and I lift up her shirt and give her some belly rubs.
Clem: [crying] It's just that everything has gone wrong recently with us losing mom and Christa and me getting bit then us getting locked in a shed. I haven't been able to think clearly! I know you're just being protective of me I'm just really fuckin' sad.
Y/N: I know baby It's been bad but we'll get through it. We always have and will. Now come here.
Clem buries her head into my chest and I hold her.
Y/N: It's okay honey bun.. It's okay.
We stay like this for a minute then pull away.
Y/N: Why don't we snuggle until the walkers are gone?
Clem: I'd love that.
We lay down and snuggle.
Y/N: I love you.
Clem: I love you too teddy bear.
We end up falling asleep due to how comfy we were. We wake up at nightfall.
A few hours later
Pete is hunched on the floor, groaning. I get up and I grab the hacksaw and approach him. I poke him with the hacksaw and jump back and pull Clem behind me. Pete coughs and sits up.
Pete: Damn it. I feel like ten pounds of shit in a five pound sack. Jesus. Stuck in this can the whole damn day. You guys want to hear somethin' funny? I've been thinkin', and I don't want to die. Never thought I'd be the kinda idiot to say somethin' like that. But there it is. I'm scared, kids. Jesus, I'm scared.
Clem: What does it feel like?
Pete: It feels like... like a rope is wrapped around my neck, gettin' tighter every second. It feels like I can't... can't breathe. Would you... would you twl promise me you'll both watch out for Nick? I love that stupid kid. No matter what you think, he is a good boy. He's been playin' a tough hand, but he is a good boy.
Y/N: We'll do what we can for that dumb bastard.
Pete chuckles.
Pete: Thank you. Been a few hours. They ain't gonna find us.
Pete gets up.
Y/N: Where are you going?
Pete partially opens the doors; walkers roam around nearby.
Pete: I'm not gettin' outta this. You're both gonna have to make a break for it. I'll buy you kids some time.
Clem: You're coming with us.
Pete: To do what? Die a couple hours later than now?
Clem: To say goodbye to Nick.
Pete: Alright. I'll try. Well, like my daddy used to say, we're burnin' daylight. Let's get this over with.
Pete, me and Clem get out of the truck. A walker gets close to us as we run, but Pete falls.
Pete: This ain't gonna work. Go on now. Find my nephew.
Clem: We'll find him!
Pete: Run!
Clem and me run into the woods.
