" IN A WAR MEANT TO CAUSE DESTRUCTION, SHE FOUND A SISTER SHE ALWAYS WISHED FOR "
He walked over to the other side of the pool. It was almost midnight; the moon shone its brightest in the sky. It was a full moon, spreading its beauty everywhere. His eyes traced the curve of the moon before he resumed his walk. Moon has always made him remember Anika, especially a full moon. It has always been their thing.
Anika would always sit outside, writing God knows what in a blue-coloured diary she carried, and he would sit on the couch in the room, that faced the poolside and stare her. He would note how her eyes shone every time and she stared at something before blushing it away. He would notice the clicking of her tongue as she wrote something wrong. He saw the smallest of her movements and he wrote them down, in his own diary.
In his memory.
Today, he wasn't out admiring his wife, but admiring the woman who entered his and his family's life a few hours ago and has impacted them so much. Anni, just Anni. No surname, no family background. Her identity is her hard work, her company. In a world ruled by powerful families, she's a one-woman army. His eyes noticed how she typed with the speed of light, her eyes scanning everything that she wrote before she started typing again, the subtle deep breaths she took every time she wrote something wrong or the continuous tapping of her feet as she thought.
This woman is so dedicated to her work. Looking at her right now seems like a dream, she feels so calm, so serene like this. Like she's a normal businesswoman working on a project. But what he saw downstairs with Svetlana tells him, she is not someone insignificant.
There's history and he needs to find it out.
The way she held Svetlana, like she owned the world and Svetlana was the dust covering her globe which was meant to be washed away told him more than anyone else would have grasped. The news of the court case filed against Svetlana by Anni tells him there's so much more to this woman than she's showing.
His feet halt as he reaches near her. He stands there watching the slight decrease in the typing speed, but it is still too fast for him to understand. She knows he's standing there but she decided against acknowledging. He stood there for a second before clearing his throat to get her attention. Which did not work, at all. She continued ignoring him.
" Anni. " He said.
" Yes? " She replied.
" Can I have a second? "
" You've wasted my ten seconds already Mr. Oberoi. "
This attitude. He sucked in a deep breath and tried to keep his irritation at bay. To speak to her about what she did to Svetlana, or to speak to her at all, he needs himself to have patience. He needs to keep calm and not rile up at her every word.
" Then I think I can USE some more. " She gave him a slight glance, her eyelashes lifting a little for her to look at him.
" No. " She went back to her typing and working. God knows what she is even doing. She's not even taking a break. He saw her come out around 8, right after the early and awkward dinner they all had. She had been working ever since, standing up only to refill her empty cup of coffee from the bar.
" Anni it's important. "
" Anything concerning you isn't important for me Mr. Oberoi. "
" How can you be so sure? "
" You're my employee now Mr. Oberoi, so listen to me. "
" I am your employee in the morning, in the office. Not when I am home. "
