"LIKE WAVES LAPPING ON HIS FEET, BECKONING HIM TO TAKE A DIVE."
~*~*~
He hadn't even received confirmation before he scheduled this meeting. Sitting within the live show happening in which he joined through his laptop, he had been wondering when Kirian Fernandez would send him the mail for the confirmation of their deal. If he would even send it. He tapped his fingers on the table, watching the reporters arguing within themselves, throwing away cheap insults at each other.
There wasn't any update from Kirian. Not in the past five minutes in which he checked his phone more than once. His mind started creating unusual theories and he needed a break from his thoughts. Which also meant he needed some distraction to keep these pesky reporters busy. Something to catch their attention. So, he brought up the topic of Siddharth's accusation on him and the other business moguls. From there on, the conversation picked up and a discussion on the recent business scandal took life. He had been glad his trick worked. Now, just some more time and he will be able to start with his actual topic.
If the said topic presents him an opportunity to be discussed.
That is if he gets the deal.
Buying this land where the warehouse was built is a very big power move by him. If he can prove that he was already going to buy this land, then the accusation of being behind the fire accident caused on Siddharth's property will automatically diminish from his name. Because why would Kartik Malhotra use his own resources to accomplish a task which he could've gotten done by the government? This is why he went out of his way to offer Kirian his favored amount, a very large sum of money that his calculative competitor, Anni, would have never agreed to give.
Things just have to go as he has planned, and everything will fall into place. His phone buzzed with a notification the same second the thought of deceiving Anni entered his mind. Excusing himself from the live, he turned it on to check the recent email, to see if Kirian decided to sell him the property or not, and also to remove the thoughts of Anni from his mind. Taking a deep breath he pressed onto the email, opened it and saw what his eyes had been wanting to see since the past few hours and more. Since he signed those papers.
A silent sigh escaped his lips. Finally, now he can discuss what he actually wanted to and not waste his time anymore on the nonsense these people were skewing. At last, he could speak the speech that he wrote—but he didn't and forced his secretary to write it for him--last night and secure his way out of this whole debacle. He turned on his camera once again as he kept back his phone on the table and notified Aksh to print the papers asap.
Noticing his presence, the reporters stopped whatever they were discussing, giving him their full attention. "I see you are back Mr. Malhotra." Nisha Arya, the show host, spoke to him.
"An important matter came up. However, I'd like to add something to the ongoing discussion." He displayed a charming smile on his face and politely explained his absence. It isn't too difficult to have your faults dismissed with a face like his. He could charm his way out of anything. Although his smile could get him only so far. It is the confidence in his tone, the authority in his voice that makes people do as he want them to do.
Yet, his charm fails every time on her.
Yet, he falls for her tricks every time.
He clears his throat to remove the bulge forming in his throat. It was not time to think about his past or anyone from his past. Whether or not that person was becoming a part of his future too. He couldn't afford to fuck this up.
Nisha nodded with a polite smile and offered to give him a short summary of the discussion that took place when he was busy. "We were just coming on the topic of the accusation Mr. Agnihotri put on his partners. It'll be insightful for us to hear a word on this issue from you since we all know your name tops on the list. How do you feel after being accused to be the prime suspect by the victim, and will this new dynamic create rifts in the corporate sector between your companies, Mr. Malhotra?" Nisha gave him a polite smile as she went off the topic that they both had decided.
