Chapter 19

Calista looked up from the book she was reading when she heard Hades, Zeus, and Amaya get up from where they were laying and put their paws on her leg. "Jaxon," She acknowledged as she went back to her book.

"Aerwyna," He said sitting across the table from her. "We need to talk."

"I figured as much with you coming to disturb me while I read," She said still without looking up from her book. "What are you taking away or restricting from me now?"

"Quit being that way," Jaxon sighed. "You got to go out and do what you wanted while you were getting your treatments. You really should be grateful for the life we live, it's because of our status that you were able to get the treatments that you needed, don't forget that, Sister. You have gotten to do a lot of things that you wanted because of who you are. You need to be more grateful."

"I am," she said emotionless, "but I also would like to continue experience life as a normal girl for just a bit longer. Is that really too much to ask for? I have already accepted my fate as never getting my veterinary license and starting my own practice. I am forever bound to be trapped in this castle and the obligations that I have even though I have nothing to contribute to it since I am no longer able to produce heirs. Oh I know," She said shutting her book and placing it on the table. "What if I abdicate my title? Oh think of the scandal it will cause all because I just want to be a normal girl while I can. Imagine how the people will react when they find out the real reason I renounce my title. Poor Princess Aerwyna just wanted to go to college then veterinary school but the king and prince wouldn't let her so she ran away. How long do you think the kingdom will still support you when they find out what little you are denying me?"

"Quit being dramatic Aerwyna," Jaxon rolled his eyes. "You are sounding selfish. You are well aware of the security threats you posed when you went to the college and worked at the vet place. You refused security and look at all the threats we received that we just know about. There is no telling how many we weren't aware of. You are acting like a selfish person right now."

"I think I have the right to be," She glared. "I am 19 years old, Jaxon and all I want is to live my life for just a little bit longer. I want to experience everything a normal teenager should. I want to go out with friends and get drunk, or go to a school dance, or plan my future, or experience my first crush then heartache like they do in the movies I was stuck watching in bed. I haven't got to be a normal teenager, Jaxon. I have already faced death more than once and beat it. Doesn't that give me some leeway on experiencing being a teenager before I get locked away in royal obligations for the rest of my life? I just want to be a teenage girl for a little bit longer, Jaxon, please. It's not like I'm asking to overstep your position and rule the kingdom. In fact, I am trying to show that I accept being second in line and I am perfectly okay with being lowered once you have children. Why am I even still being forced to stay here Jaxon? Please explain it to me. You are my older brother, so you are automatically next in line since Uncle did not have children with his wife. Once you marry and your wife has children I will be lowered in the line to the throne. I can not produce children so I obviously will not carry the royal line anymore. You have people that can easily take over my position in the kingdom, all I am is a pretty face with a weak body that occasionally shows I have a caring heart for the people now. I am nothing more than pretty much a trophy royal now. Why can I not just have a normal life like the people in our kingdom and just show up when I need to be seen for the family? Surely there must be some way we can come to a compromise."
