Several hours later, my eyes fluttered open, and I looked around wildly. I'm alone? Where are Scott and Mitch? A nurse walked into the room and smiled softly at me.

Clair: You're awake! How do you feel?

Me: Alright, but where are Scott and Mitch?

Then something occurred to me. If Scott and Mitch are not in my room, that would mean that Kirstin's gone. I cried out in agony as my body started to tremble, and I began to cry. The nurse, alarmed, tried to calm me down, but it was in vain. I had lost Kirstin, and I never got to say goodbye. Then my dreams returned to me from when we were at Kings Island. I had felt the pain from losing Kirstin in the dreams, never expecting to feel it in reality. It was something that I was for sure I would never have to feel, but here I am, alone and without Kirstin. I never got to say goodbye. I should have died in that stage, collapsing. Kirstin! Why did you have to go? The nurse in the room was thoroughly confused and had no idea what to do. Footsteps sounded in the hall, and soon, Scott rushed into the room. He gently wrapped his arms around me, and his voice wasn't filled with the grief I'd expected. Is Kirstin alive after all? Scott's voice was gentle and comforting as he rubbed my back.

Scott: Shhh. It's okay, Kailyn. Kirstin's alive. She's alive.

My body seemed to stop trembling, and Scott noticed that his reassuring words had calmed me down slightly. He smiled and held me close.

Scott: Don't worry, sweetie. Mitch is sitting with her. She'll be okay. I'm sorry I wasn't here.

I didn't respond but buried my face in his chest as I slowly calmed down. It wasn't long before I was asleep against Scott. When he went to lay my head on the pillow, I grabbed his shirt. The nurse was still confused yet relieved that I was now resting. Scott smiled warmly and knew that this was what Kirstin must have felt when she had to comfort me after my terrible nightmares. Until now, Kirstin had been the only one to experience it.

Several days later, the three of us were at Kirstin's side. She was still not awake yet, and the doctors feared that she might not make it after all, but her heart rate returned when it seemed that she might not live. She was fighting for her life, and it was showing. I was sitting beside Scott, who held my left hand while I held Kirstin's right hand in my right hand. I started to doze off when I felt a slight pressure on my hand. My eyes flew open then I realized that it was just Scott.

Scott: Sorry, sweetheart. You want to lean against me and try to rest?

Me: Yeah.

He pulled me into him, and I soon fell asleep. Mitch returned to the room and smiled when he saw that I was sleeping.

Mitch: At least she's resting. That's what she needs if she is going to get stronger. Scott, I want to know who did this to Kirstin.

Scott was silent as his eyes landed on her arm. He closed his eyes for a moment and thought about how much pain Kirstin had been in when he found her on the sidewalk of the Peterson's. The Petersons were a terrible family that lived in Pigeon Forge. Jason Peterson had injured Kirstin back in November. She had been in the hospital for two months, then stayed somewhere for a couple of weeks to allow her to heal a bit more so they could travel home. Scott opened his eyes and sighed.

Scott: Mitch, I can't help but think that Jessica is responsible for this.

Mitch's fists clenched as his brown eyes blazed with anger. His mind drifted back to the stage collapsing. Then he realized that Jessica had planned to kill Kailyn.

Mitch: Scott, I saw Jessica watching the ceremony, and when I talked to her, she told me that she would do anything to kill Kailyn, and there was nothing I could do to stop her. Something tells me that it was meant to be for Kailyn, but Kirstin somehow learned about it and took it herself.
