I awoke the next morning and stretched. Fear rose in me as I didn't feel warmth beside me. I glanced down, but Kirstin was still asleep. I realized that I was still just waking up and didn't feel it right away. After I had woken up more, I felt Kirstin's soft hand on my arm. She woke up when she felt me moving. I wrapped my arms around her neck once she had sat up. She held onto me as I cried.
Kirstin: What's the matter, sweetheart?
Me: I thought that you had died last night.
Kirstin held onto me as she rubbed my back. Her voice was gentle as she attempted to calm me down.
Kirstin: It's okay, sweetheart. Scott took care of me. I'm right here, sweetie. I got you. You're okay, and I'm okay.
I calmed down but continued to keep my grip on Kirstin. Tears stained my face as my body shook.
Kirstin: Kailyn, what's the matter?
There wasn't one bit of annoyance in her voice, only comfort, and care.
Me: I don't want you to leave. What if something happens to you while we are apart?
Kirstin: Scott will take care of me. It'll be okay.
I calmed down, but then I happened to see her neck. My eyes unfocused with fear, and Kirstin sensed it. She pulled me into her again and held me closer.
Kirstin: I'll be okay. It'll take more than that to kill me.
She smiled and hoped that her tone was cheerful enough to comfort me. Kirstin released me and wiped the tears from my eyes as she smiled.
Kirstin: Let's go get some breakfast. We'll spend the day together before we have to leave. Scott already has the car packed, so we could spend time together before we left.
Me: Okay.
I sighed, and together we walked downstairs. Mitch was sitting talking to Scott and Jacob. I ran to Jacob, who stood up when he saw me come down the stairs. He grabbed onto me and held me close.
Jacob: How are you feeling?
Me: Physically alright. Emotionally not so good.
Jacob: It'll get better when they return.
He smiled at me, and his blue eyes sparkled with love and admiration as he held me in his arms. Scott walked over to Kirstin and put his arm around her. He pulled her into him and smiled. Kirstin leaned into him and smiled as she watched Jacob with me.
Jacob: Kailyn, I want to take you out on another date tonight.
Me: Really?
Jacob: Of course.
He smiled and then hugged me. Jake released me and sighed.
Me: What's wrong?
Jacob: I won't be able to come to get you until 5:30 tonight. I'm sorry.
Me: That's okay. I might drive myself; after they leave, I am going to my old house to check up and stay there for a couple of nights.
Jacob nodded in understanding before he smiled and walked to the door with me following.
Jacob: See you tonight!
Me: Okay!
He walked outside, and I watched with excitement growing inside of me as he drove down the driveway. As I watched him leave, I felt Kirstin's arms around me as if she was enticing me to hug her. I whipped around and threw my arms around her as she held me close.
Kirstin: Don't worry, we won't leave until I know that you're okay.
Scott: Kirstie's right. I won't leave this cabin until I know for a fact that you are safe and secure. I promise.
