I awoke the next morning to find Kirstin, not beside me. Somehow I remembered that Kirstin had fallen asleep beside me with her arm around me all night. I could feel her warmth the entire night, but now I was cold. Why am I cold? I shivered as I uncovered myself. As I placed my feet on the cabin floor, I winced. Groaning, I stood up then I noticed that the cabin was silent. With panic rising quickly in me, I bolted to the door. I slowed just enough to open it, but then rushed into the hallway. My voice was filled with concern as I called out.

Me: Kirstin? Scott?

My cries echoed in the empty cabin. Was this a nightmare? I thought as I checked each room upstairs. Nothing. Fear rose inside me as each time I came up empty-handed. The next time that I cried out, my voice shook with agony and terror.

Me: Kirstin, please answer me!

Tears welled up in my eyes as I cautiously walked to the loft area. I pictured the dead bodies of Kirstin and Scott on the floor and Jessica standing over them with a knife dripping with their blood. I shuddered and reminded myself that I would have been awoken by their cries of pain and death. But I did shiver again as I ran back to my room to grab a blanket. After wrapping myself in the warm blanket, I continued my search. I stood at the top of the stairs, tears now streaming down my face, as I cried out once more. This time my voice was trembling and I almost got choked.

Me: Scott, please respond to me.

Once again I received nothing but the echoes that bounced off the walls of the cabin. Sighing with fear, I stepped down the stairs cautiously. Around the fifth stair, I overshot it and it slipped on the wood. I fell and landed hard on my side. Laying there, gasping for air I attempted to cry out for help but only to receive no response from anywhere in the cabin. No, Jessica has them! I didn't bother to get up as I laid there gasping for air and cried. Tears streamed down my face as I remained on my side gasping for air, crying, shivering, and trembling in agony. My shoulder was aching and the pain was almost unbearable, but that wasn't as bad as the emotional pain that I felt. I had lost Scott and Kirstin to Jessica and there was nothing that I could do to get them back. I knew that Jessica would have already killed them, so what was the point in even trying? Everyone would know that they were going to be dead anyway so how about save everyone the trouble and give up. Jessica got her wish now and maybe I wouldn't necessarily be on her kill list anymore. You should have killed me! Why them! The minutes ticked by and it was about an hour when I heard a key put into the lock and it turned. It's probably the police or Jake. Joy pulsed through me as I heard Kirstin's sweet voice outside. She's alive? I thought as the door unlocked and it opened slightly. Is Scott there too? I wondered as I didn't hear any more voices. The door shut again and I heard Kirstin's voice tell someone.

Kirstin: I hope that she saw the note.

Scott: I am sure she did, Kirstie.

He's alive! His voice was calm as he calmed Kirstin. Wait, what note? I wondered as the door opened again. I could almost sense that Kirstin was still unsure, despite Scott's calming words. I lifted my head weakly to cry out, but it was interrupted by me trying to get air into my lungs. I was shivering and trembling. Tears stained my face from where I was crying, and my shoulder throbbed because I landed on my right side. I gasped for air, but there was no use in that. Before long, I gave up as I felt my body lose the last of its strength. My body grew limp as my eyes closed in weakness. They were too late! I opened my eyes one last time to see the door cracked. My brown eyes slowly closed as my body went deathly still. I breathed out: "I love you, Kirstin" As the last word left my mouth, everything went black. My skin was ice cold and my sides heaved as my body continued to attempt to get air into my lungs. The door opened and Kirstin stepped inside. At first she didn't see my limp body, but then when she finally turned towards the stairs, she gasped and rushed to my side.
