Newt - The Safe Haven

Today marked two whole weeks since he had been at the Safe Haven. Newt had started working in the gardens with Aris, Jayden and Evan decided on becoming builders, and Emmeline offered to work in the med tent, which she promptly failed at after stabbing someone with a sewing needle and making their injury worse. She was then kicked to going to building, which she was much better at. Lucy had decided on working in the gardens with him, and she made good conversation, and was very good at gardening.

He had finally found the showers and found out there was a way to wash his clothes, so after doing both of those things, and letting Teresa give him a haircut, he actually looked decent.

There was another meeting about Teresa staying, which Minho had told him he was absolutely not allowed to be there, but Vince and Jorge decided it would be best for Teresa's sake if he was there.

So they all gathered in the Town Hall, which was a small hut with an uneven table and chairs, and a small, dirty sheet as the door. He sat in a chair while everyone else sat quietly, waiting for the meeting to start.

"Okay. We have to decide this now. She's been here two weeks and we need to make a decision now. We can't keep her in the pit forever." Vince said.

"I think we should hear from Jayden, Evan, Lucy, Emmeline and Newt. Most us haven't spoken to her or known how she's behaved since the fall of WCKD. They will know if she's actually changed." Miyoko said.

"I think she's a cunt for torturing my friends, but she's done nothing but help us since she met us. I don't think she's evil per say, but she's not a good person." Emmeline said.

"She's in the gray area for me. I don't want her to die or anything, but after what she told us? I don't know. All I know is I've been able to hide from WCKD my whole life, I'm not giving that up now." Lucy said.

"I think she's perfect." Evan said. Clearly his crush on Teresa wasn't going away anytime soon.

"Exactly what blondie said. She's a danger, even if WCKD is gone. I say we just let her drift out from shore and hopefully she'll get eaten by some sea monster lurking around." Brenda said, angrily.

"Call me blondie again and I will personally remove your knee caps. And that's not what I said. I said I do not want her to die, but I do not want to get taken by WCKD. Since there is no WCKD, she should stay, and if she crosses one singular line, she can just get on the berg and leave." Lucy said.

"Like you could remove them. I'll cut your fucking face off if you even try." Brenda responded. The only person Newt could think of that could actually challenge Brenda was Emmeline, and from what Newt could tell, Emmeline thought of Harriet as somewhat of a sister, and would never hurt someone Harriet cares about. Harriet and Emmeline sort of reminded Newt of him and Minho.

"We're getting off track. Newt? You've seen everything she's done and managed to forgive her, whats your opinion on this?" Vince asked.

"I want her to stay. She saved my life and I'll do the same for her." He responded.

"But do you think she can handle being here without torturing anyone?" Miyoko asked.

"Yes. She genuinely doesn't want to hurt anyone. She's been through hell and she thought WCKD would keep her safe." Newt said.

"I still don't trust her." Brenda said.

"I get that, Brenda. I didn't trust her for awhile either. We would get into screaming matches, leave each other out in the scorch and bicker as common conversation." Newt paused. "But over time she showed me she has no intentions of ever going back to them. She just wanted a cure, she just wanted to help people, and didn't understand that how she was helping was actually hurting." Newt finished.
