Thomas - The Safe Haven

Thomas was completely and utterly drunk. He had atleast four glasses of Gally's brew and then Jorge, who had found a bottle of scotch in the scorch, gave him a glass or two of that.

He said that he was waiting to open it when life seems like it's changing for the better, and reconciliation with an enemy was the best type of change.

Thomas wouldn't call Teresa his enemy. He still cared about her, and you don't care about your enemies.

He sat with her for most of the night as Newt had gone off and sat with Sonya most of the night, giggling and sharing stories. He was glad they were friends.

Teresa didn't say much for the night, just sipped her brew and went to bed early, clearly uncomfortable. He didn't blame her, most people were either shooting her dirty looks or just completely ignoring her. The worst of it was when two girls who had too much of Gally's brew started talking about how they didn't want her here. She left shortly after.

He was stumbling around, looking for Newt. He didn't know where the boy was or what he was doing but he had something to tell him.

So as it turns he stumbled around until he found his hut and went in.

Teresa shot up from her bed, just under Emmeline's, who turned, looked at him and then went back to sleep. Jayden and Evan's bunk bed was quiet as both of the boys seemed to be dead asleep. Mason was laying on the bottom of one of the bunks, with Newts dog, sleeping peacefully with a photo clutched in his small hand. He looked at the photo.

It was three people, a man and two children. He recognized the boy as Mason, and the girl looked a lot like him. He assumed this was his family.

"Teresa." He whispered.

"Do you need me to take you to your hut, Thomas?" She asked.

"Where's Newt?" He asked.

"I dunno. Haven't seen him." She said.

He sat himself down on the end of her bed and she stared at him.

"Thank you. I figured you were the one who fought for me to stay." She said.

"I actually didn't say anything at all. It was Newt. He gave some grand speech about how you had changed while you were out in the scorch with him. It makes me think you have." He said. He believes Newt and all his instincts. If Newt says she's changed, he believes him.

"Oh. Well then." She said.

"Not that I don't want you here. I just don't know where to stand with you." He said. It was truth, plain and simple. There was no point in lying to her.

"That's fair. But I'm sorry. For everything. I just- I just wanted to help." She said. She looked sad.

"It's okay. I'm gonna go to bed. I'll talk to Newt in the morning." He said. He just wanted to leave the awkward conversation.

He stumbled out of the hut, tripping over his own feet when someone caught him.

"Alright there?" Newt asked. He didn't seem drunk.

"Yeah, I was looking for you." Thomas said.

"Well you've found me." He said.

Thomas looked at him. He looked into his eyes, and he knew he had to tell him now.

So Thomas, without thinking, kissed him. It only lasted a few seconds before Newt broke away.

"You're so drunk." He said. "C'mon, let's get you back to your hut."

Newt brought him back to his hut where Minho was sitting up awake, looking at the ceiling.

"Special delivery." Newt said when he saw Minho. Minho laughed.

"I didn't order this, please take it back." He said.

"You can't get rid of me!" Thomas said loudly. Minho and Newt both shushed him.

Newt helped him get into his bed and he grabbed Newt's arm before he could walk away.

"I love you." Thomas said.

"I love you too." He said, before leaving. Minho was giggling in his bed, and he chose to ignore it, instead falling asleep as quickly as he could.

"I feel like my body is shutting down on me." Thomas said.

"That's called a hangover, hermano. You need to start holding your liquor." Jorge said.

They had all sat down for breakfast, but nothing really looked appealing to him. It all made him a little sick.

"Do you even remember last night?" Minho asked. Thomas didn't.

"No." He muttered. Minho burst into a fit of laughter.

"Do you want a recap of my favourite part?" Minho asked. He must've done something super embarrassing in front of Minho.

"Sure." Thomas responded.

"Personally, it was when you confessed to Newt that you loved him was my favourite." Minho said, whispering in his ear.

"I did that?" Thomas asked, sort of shocked. He did want to talk to Newt about when he kissed him on the berg, but he was trying to wait until Newt was a bit more stable to do so. Did he just confess his love for him and make it worse?

"Relax, I can literally see your brain on the brink of explosion. He said he loves you too." Minho said.

"Hey, what are we talking about?" Sonya asked, sitting down with Emmeline. Newt must've been busy, since they had Teresa following them. It was rare to see Teresa not following him around these days.

"Thomas confessing his love for his boyfriend." Minho said. He elbowed him in the gut.

"Awhhh." Sonya said, extending the word. "You and Newt are so cute together!" She said.

"Who is cute together?" Harriet asked while Brenda and Gally came in behind her.

"Thomas and Newt." Emmeline responded.

"Oh, so Thomas has stopped being oblivious and Newt has stopped pining?" Brenda asked.

"What are you on about, Brenda?" Thomas asked.

"Shut up. I was out there in the scorch for six months with you two. I saw it all." She said.

"Shove it. All of you." Thomas said. He got up and left, going to go and find Newt as quickly as he could.

He wandered around for a bit, only to realize Newt was probably already working, and made his way to the gardens. He looked around, and nobody seemed to be in the gardens just yet. He went to leave and go look for Newt else where, when the familiar accent stopped him in his tracks.

"Wha'cha ya looking for, Tommy." Newt said. He was behind a small patch of trees, near where they were planting some new stuff.

"You, actually." He said, making his way over to Newt.

"I want to apologize about last night. I shouldn't have done that." He said.

"Dont worry about the kiss. I did the same thing didn't I?" He said. What kiss was he talking about?

"I don't remember that." Thomas said.

"Oh. What are ya apologizing about then?" Newt asked.

"Telling you I love you. I didn't mean it."

"Oh." He put his head down. "Very well, you're forgiven. But go somewhere else I need to work." He finished.

Thomas went to leave, as Newt requested. He got a few feet away when he heard sniffling coming from the area where Newt was. Thomas thought about going back, but whatever reason Newt had to skip breakfast to sit out in the gardens, he clearly wanted to do it alone.
