"It is like you just said, you wish I could be a Watcher. Well wish all you want because I don't know who you are and from the looks and sounds of things you know a little too much about me."

"We ask you to reconsider considering the fact that you don't even know us."

"That is kind of the point."

"Oh Winter humour has never been your strong point, you have been spending to much time with Qibli, the SandWing. Which I still don't understand. How can you spend so much time with a dragon that took your girl for himself?"

"He didn't have anything to do with Moon's decision that was all her and....mostly me." Winter sighed at the thought of his past fails, but the smoke was intrigued.

"Go on" he said curiously

"Well I sorta messed everything up...."

Winter explained everything that he had blown with Moon at the NightWing Kingdom, and how some of the stuff was so bad that they didn't even tell him what happened to his enemy. (he didn't say the name to trigger anything so he just kept it "enemy") also how when she had a prophecy he didn't listen to her and it almost killed him.......

".......and that is how I ruined my chances of getting Moon's trust. So that made up my year, how about you?"

From the shadows, Moon was listening intently to her own life story in Winter's perspective. She instantly felt all the same feelings she had when she had previously experienced them.  She felt sadness, happiness, love, pain, forgiveness, compassion, sorrow, and most of all she felt torn.

Not like the torn she had felt before. That had felt like she was being in two different directions with no guidance on which force to give in to.

This felt like she was reopening a tear somewhere deep that had almost healed , but just got split open again.

Every detail in the story of her year all the downs pulled apart more, but the ups closed it up again. Now she was torn, then healed, and then torn again back and forth until the rocking boat of her head made it through to the ending she was looking forward to.

Where she gets with Qibli. Even that made Moon sad because she knew that she had broken Winter, and friends should never have to do that.

Winter's story had seemed to pierce the smoke's heart. Then Moon had felt herself release tension and she fell to the ground in a soft poof. She quickly realized that gravity wasn't a very strong force in this world, and that whatever was keeping her locked up was no longer active.

The smoke had gone silent. He asked mysteriously,

"Hmm this Moon you say....she can have prophecies? Yes?"

"Yes, why do you ask?" Winter responded questionably.

The smoke made a statement Moon couldn't hear but it apparently was a bold statement and it seemed to set Winter off.

His eyes darted rapidly around the dark area until they landed on Moon who was involuntarily gravitating toward the spotlight of the room. The smoke dragon twitched and chuckled at the young ex prince's face,

"Well it seems your Moonwatcher is in our midst."

Winter searched Moon's expression to make sure she was ok and that she wasn't injured. The smoke wisped behind Moon and some how pushed her closer to Winter.

They stood in silence for a few moments until Winter whispered quietly to Moon,

"Are you ok?"

He had a deep look of concern on his face like all he cared about was her safety and Moon believed him. He didn't even have to say anything and she already had full trust in him.

Qibli was right, expressions do say more than words.

Moon smiled inside with a glimmer of happiness. She nodded silently to Winter who seemed to have just set down the weight of the world, he must have had it on his shoulders. The smoke dragon was smiling a weird wispy smile.

Moon looked at this peculiar dragon intently. She couldn't read his mind. Maybe because he was made of smoke or since it was a prophecy.

Then again this didn't seem like a prophecy. Winter on the other talon was fuming at the smiling cloud, he couldn't take the creepy silence anymore so he shouted,

"WHAT ARE YOU LOOKING AT!?"

"You, dear Winterwatcher, what else?" The cloud said with an innocent tone in his voice.

"Would you mind telling us why you're looking at us, other than the fact that you think we are cute?" Moon asked politely. The smoke dragon seemed pleased.  Then it looked as if a light bulb had just gone off in its brain.

"So is that why it never worked out for you two? Your differences were too powerful for your love?" Winter was about to go on rage mode. When abruptly he grabbed his snout and seemed to be trying to pry his own mouth open.

"Don't worry Moonwatcher it is only for a moment now if you answer my question I will answer yours." The smoke looked expectantly at Moon waiting for the answer. Moon sighed and then spoke,

"We aren't in love. Unless love means it is one sided. I don't love Winter the way he wants me too. I love him like a best friend who I would die for. Not like a passionate love that I want to spend every single moment of my life with. I have been wanting to say that for awhile and I am sorry, Winter, for leading you on. If I did. So did you get the answer you wanted?"

This was the thing she felt was right to say. She thought it would pour salt on her wound, but in fact it just poured healing.

Moon looked indignantly at the dragon of smoke. He smiled again and took a deep breath and  replied,

"Yeah that answers my question I am glad you told the truth Moonwatcher. You remind me of an old friend of mine."

"Oh? Who might that be?"

"A beautiful NightWing with powers similar to yours her name was, Clearsight."

"WHAT?!" Moon and Winter yelled at the same time.

"You know her?" The mysterious dragon asked in a confused manner.

"Yes we have heard of her she was our worst nemesis's girlfriend!" Moon said excitedly which seemed to puzzle the cloud dragon more.

"Well technically ex girlfriend considering that she PUT HIM UNDER A MOUNTAIN FOR 2 THOUSAND YEARS!!" Winter added angrily. "And I still don't know what happened to him!"

"Three Moons now is not the time, Winter!" The smoke dragon stood there admiring the two fighting in shock. His thoughts had been peaceful since the last time he was mentioned...

Moonwatcher noticed the distant look on this dragon's face. And stopped talking. She had seen this look before in the material eyes of another peculiar dragon. "Are you okay, and if you say yes I know you're lying." The smoke dragon sighed and asked the fateful question,

"The one you speak of, is his name...Darkstalker?" Moon and Winter exchanged glances. They both nodded. The smoke dragon chuckled ruefully at the dragonets, "I suppose you should know who I am then. Only if you want too of course."

Moon and Winter nodded rapidly. Once again the dragon smiled a bittersweet smile and sighed,

"The name is Fathom, nice to meet you."

A/N: Oooooo I really liked this chapter, despite the fact that I have never actually read the legends book by Tui T. Sutherland.
