Y/N and Draco sit at the top of the Astronomy tower in silence for a long time.
All she wants to do is ask him a question or talk to him, but how is she supposed to do it? How is she supposed to talk to the boy who she would usually ignore?
Y/N thinks about how she's talk to him when she saw him in the Summer. How it didn't need to be cordial or done a certain way. It just was what it was and there was no tiptoeing around things. So she just says what's on her mind.
"You were there that night."
He looks over to her from where he's sitting. "What?"
She looks over at the railing for a second and then looks at him. "I remember it."
Draco looks like he's seen a ghost as she continues. "I woke up after I passed out. And I looked around me and I was moving. Not on my own though, I was being carried. When I looked up, it was you."
He doesn't say anything to her, but she just looks at him directly in the eyes from meters away. "I know it was you. Don't even try to deny it."
"I-" He stutters.
It goes silent for a while. The two of them don't know what to say for quite a long time. Y/N sits there, looking at him as she sits against the bench in the tower. The question continues to roam through her mind until she finally comes out and asks.
"Why did you do it?"
"What?" He asks.
"It was dangerous. There was fire everywhere and screaming, and people running. So what were you doing there? Why hadn't you gone yet?"
"I could ask you the same thing."
Y/N looks down at her hands as he proves his point. "It was dangerous and you were still there. Why hadn't you gone?"
She explains to him. "I was still there because I was putting out fires."
"Why?"
"Because I had the ability to do something. I had a choice to make in that moment and I chose to help. So tell me, what were you still doing there? Why did you help me?"
He takes a breath before explaining his thinking. "I-."
"Yes?"
Draco looks at the sky as he speaks, almost to avoid eye contact with her. "You were gonna die. The fires were spreading rapidly and they were going to burn you till there was nothing left. I was still on the grounds and I saw you, so I moved you away from the fires."
Y/N stares at him, but he continues to look at the night sky.
She doesn't truly know how to respond to him, so she just says the first thing that comes to mind. "Thank you..."
"Whatever." He mutters.
Y/N gets up from the ground after a while and looks through the telescope. The night sky is clear, there are no clouds at all. Since it's just Hogwarts and Hogsmeade, both without electrical lighting, there's also little to no light pollution. So all there is to see are the stars and the the moon. The sky's a lot more blue when there's not light from cities or towns. And she can see every constellation the lies above them.
