Drumming my fingers on my thigh I watch Bjorn who was watching out the window. Its extremely dark in the church we decided to sit in, we didn't want the light to draw attention seeing as we were only a few blocks from the compound. We were just far enough away to not hear the loud music, but we could see the orange light and smoke from the bonfires. Hopefully Mato and company would come from the south, and not try to wrap around.
"Nervous?" Bjorn asks turning to me.
I frown at him. "No."
"Really?" He questions giving me one cocked brow. "So we went and cleared out a Meijer just for you to get makeup and a brush for nothing?"
I bristle at that. "I told you I could do it myself."
"And I told you I didn't want to take the chance if some of that gang was hiding in there waiting for people to try to get into the grocery store." I frown at him as he leans back and crosses his arms. We both know I could of handled a handful of people, but he wouldn't take that chance. And sure I wanted to go into the store for makeup, my makeup bag was still in the car that Mato and his family had took. "You didn't answer my question."
I let out a sigh and shake my head. "Not nervous, anxious."
And that was true, I wasn't very nervous about them coming here or about the fight. I was anxious to see them, see which ones would come to fight with us and help us. I was also excited about it. The past few days I had been questioning if being with them was what I actually wanted, now with being anxious and excited to see them.. I knew I was in deep.
"Are you nervous?" I ask Bjorn and he shakes his head.
"Curious." He says. "Curious to see the people who make you anxious to see them."
There's a low idle sound of a car, I just barley pick up the sound in the distance. Bjorn gives me one nod and I get up. Heading outside I'm without weapons, other then the sword on my back and a gun in my holster hidden by the baggy hoodie I took from the store we had visited. I'd be the first person out in the open, Bjorn would hide in the shadows just in case its not a friendly. There's a feeling in my stomach that almost feels like I might get nauseous, almost a tingling feeling I can't place because I don't think I've ever felt it before. As I step around the front of the building, sticking close to the wall I see a small sedan creep up the street.
There aren't any cars on the street, and only three in the parking lot. One of them being the one Bjorn and I had been using. The sedan creeps up to the parking lot, I stay near the wall just inside of the shadow. The moon is bright in the sky giving me enough to see the car stop, and then the door open. I hold my breath waiting to see who steps out. I see a foot, another foot and the top of his head I'm already speed walking. When he stands up straight, facing me I start jogging. The car door is closed just as I reach him and I jump.
He huffs out a breath as one hand goes to my ass, one to my back to hold me to him. My arms and legs wrap around him tightly, burying my face into his neck, a hand rubs along my back. "Why aren't you wearing pants?"
I let out a laugh his hand on my back goes up to the back of my head and he grips the base of my ponytail and pulls my head back. I know where this is going when I see Mato's face so close to mine, his eyes move down to my mouth. My hand comes out quickly between us before he can kiss me and he frowns. "I don't know if I'm infectious when it comes to swapping bodily fluids."
There's a choking sound from the back of his throat and he shakes his head. "Okay, no kissing. Yet."
"Yet." I agree. I'm squeezed to him again in a hug and I relish it for a moment before I hear a twig snap behind me. Mato tenses up and I pat his upper back. "Remember when I told you I had two friends? One of them found me."
