the silence seemed to last for hours, though it had only been just under an hour. the last seconds of the last song were playing, and steve was scared that once this was over he would go back to never seeing eddie ever again.
he felt certain that eddie must be able to read minds, because he sat up and looked down at steve with the most concerned look on his face. "look...steve, i really hope you know that i didn't mean to push you away. i've thought about calling you god knows how many times, but i could never come up with a good enough excuse" steve rolled his eyes at that, looking back up at his former best friend. "you could've asked any time, i would've hung out with you even if all we did was smoke the whole time or whatever"
it still wasn't enough to explain why eddie was so distant, when they were closer eddie would call steve for the dumbest reasons. and as much as he protested that supposedly it was just because steve was the only one to answer the phone, he knew that wasn't true at all. steve sighed, laying down next to eddie like it was last year again.
"you know i really missed you right? i bought like a shit ton of stuff that reminds me of you, that sounds so weird to admit" he regretted that as soon as the words came out of his mouth, because eddie was far too quiet right now.
"i know..and i'm really sorry, but what do you mean? what kind of stuff?"
"oh um...i bought a black sabbath cassette, hated it at first but it grew on me" eddie gasped when steve said he hated it, pretending to be so hurt that he fell of his bed causing the pair to both start laughing so much it hurt.
once the laughter died down eddie got back up, sitting on the edge of the bed. "just like me?"
"i guess? it's relatively the same, first impressions can be deceiving i was just jealous of you hanging out with the kids"
"oh no i could never steal them away from their favorite babysitter, we can share or something" he talked with his hands, something eddie only did when he was super nervous and also a little high. steve hadn't even noticed he was smoking, until he could very clearly smell it.
"like divorced parents do?" steve laughed, hoping his joke made sense and didn't make his friend uncomfortable. to his surprise and relief, eddie found this hilarious and offered some of what he had to steve. "something like that harrington, yeah, whatever makes you happy"
steve hesitated, he hadn't gotten high since being drugged by the russians under starcourt and he didn't want to relive that memory again. but he trusted eddie, and this was different so after a few minutes they were both so high that everything the other person said seemed to be the funniest thing ever.
despite being not at all in his right mind, steve knew it was later than he normally stayed up and was really wishing he could sleep right now. yawning despite how bad he knew he'd feel in the morning "i really..should get going man"
"what? no steve you're high, you can sleep here i'll take the couch" eddie attempted to pull his pillow out from under steve but he wouldn't budge, so he sighed and just pulled the sheets over both of them hoping that would be okay.
every signal in steve's brain was on fire right now, maybe it was just because he was high or maybe it was because eddie was nearly holding him. no matter how nervous they were they both managed to fall asleep, ignoring every sign that maybe this meant something more.
steve decided he wasn't going to question it, and when he woke up the next morning he was gone before eddie even woke up. as he drove to work he couldn't help feeling horrible about it, like he had done something wrong. his head was killing him, trying to piece back together what happened last night while still coming down from the high.
robin tried her best to console him, though he wasn't telling her what happened at all. he couldn't get it out of his head, the way eddie looked when he opened the door.
he was totally screwed, pacing back and forth as he accepted the fact that he had a very real and annoying crush on eddie munson. and that it wasn't just him being high that had mad him so nervous he thought he was going to throw up, it was the way he had looked at him when that stupid song was playing.
/ yeah this one sucks and is too short, next one will be better
